Egged on by Paxman, I pose the following question.  Father's day cometh, and I get a gift.  For 300 USA dollars or less, what is the proper watch for a philosopher?

Also, is there a website somewhere that has serial numbers for a c. 1910 Elgin pocket watch in a Philadelphia Watch Case Company case?  The case is number 8346875.

TIA!

Man, this forum has the best emoticons.  toon1.gif

Edit: I've learned that case numbers are not useful, and that the serial number of the Elgin watch, which is apparently properly described as a sidewinder, is 13,539,715, and dates to 1906.  The watch belonged to my great grandfather, a criminal defense lawyer in Lorain Ohio, a rough, industrial, ship building town at the time.  Probably pulled it out during arguments in court for dramatic effect.
