 I don't think there is an issue with Breitling.  I only have one: a chronomat circa 2004. No issues whatsoever - still runs within COSC specs. 
I agree that some Breitling dials are simply too busy, but they are good watches. 
I personally love the Heritage series, and would love to get a Superocean heritage on mesh - non-chrono version.
