...............The Bernhardt Binnacle Anchor............... The newest addition to the line and a continuation of the original Binnacle name chosen by Fred for his first watch. After arguing with myself for several months I was swayed by the many articles on this watch and perhaps by a dram or two of Jamesons or Makers Mark to make the purchase. This watch has been compared many times to the Rolex Explorer and while I have never owned one I can see the resemblance. Smooth, cool, no nonsense and comfortable in any situation. ![]() After you adjust the bracelet with screw in rods, find the perfect clasp setting from 4 selections for an excellent perfect fit, wind and set the Anchor with the large, generous screw down engraved crown, this watch slips on your wrist like an old friend. The 40mm size without the crown may be considered small by some but it hits my sweet spot as it wears slightly bigger. The Miyota 8215 has a pleasant sweep and has been running +5 seconds a day the short time Ive had it. ![]() The case, while slimmer than some, is still quite sturdy in its feel. The screw in, engraved back and sapphire crystal gives it a water resistance rating of 200M. ![]() The high polish on the sides and bracelet center links makes the watch quite dressy but is a fingerprint and smudge magnet. There are no end links on the bracelet but rather a hooded "U" design that is part of the case itself. Strap changes should be no problem and of course, Fred includes a nice leather strap for those so inclined. ![]() No date window is present, a feature I find most appealing both cosmetically and for practicality. Setting the time when you wear several different watches a week (or day) and have no winder is vastly more pleasant. ![]() Lume starts out quite strong but quickly fades to a readable level. Ive been able to read it after several hours but no overnight test as of yet. This is a very nice watch with great fit and finish and should serve anyone well. Being packaged in Freds wooden signature presentation box completes the presentation. It is a lot of watch for the money and different enough from the commonplace to be noticed.
