It didn't occur to me that Rolex might not be interested in its history because it is such a (relatively) young manufacture. Still, they have made some very interesting watches, especially in the 1940s and 1950s and it really is a shame that they aren't interested in their patrimony.

I am having my dad's 1960s Omega Chronostop basically rebuilt by Swatch for him. They are keeping the original tritium dial and case but basically everything else is going to be new. If Omega/Swatch can do it I really can't see why Rolex cannot, aside from them not wanting to.
