I've collected a bunch of Zeniths, but finally landed one of my two grails...a 1971 A3818. Only 1000 A3818s were made in 1971, and you don't see too many around. ![]() ![]() In addition to its beautiful blue dial, this watch became even more desirable after Manfred Rossler released his definitive reference book on Zenith and used the A3818 on the cover (hence the nickname). ![]() Originally housing an El Primero 3019, this particular watch appears to have a service replacement EP 40.0. The 40.0 was the precursor to the post-resurrection EP cal. 400, and is extremely rare. In an interesting twist, there is a version with a Cal. 40.0 featured in Rossler's book (p. 247). Based on the case number, it's the same watch I just bought! (The case has clearly been restored to the original brushed SS). You'll be seeing it on my wrist quite a bit once the strap I ordered gets in later this week. ![]() ![]()
