Marc, I was just messing with you. The case back is thick 2mm +/-, but I believe the need was more due to the gasket. It is a rigid polymer that will out last us more than likely, and it seems to require more contact force. I would guess that the limiting factor on the water resistance was due to the crystal, the eng. is solid. They could have taken the easy way out and used a silicon or rubber gasket but it is a Corum and they go the extra mile and highly decorate a movement that can not be seen.
