Each time I've seen polish works over a brushed: It didn't look like factory made at all.
It's hard to reach the corners and get a perfect result specially if the case isn't totally demounted or striped.
Things like that are better done by a pro with the right tools and polishing compound as it's hard to master: Compounds are also changing with the hardness of the metal you polish if I recall right.
