A quick update: I bought this watch in 2013, and used it almost exclusively as a standard, Eco-Drive, perpetual-calendar watch. I had the same problems with the wonky bluetooth connection.

However, last month (January 2015), I was asked by Citizen to return it for a firmware update. They paid for all shipping, and I had it back in one week. And now -- making the bluetooth connection to my iPhone is all controlled by the phone (as it should be), and is nearly foolproof. After I read and re-read the new instructions, I had no problems with the initial sync. After that, connecting and re-connecting are automatic.

To answer the "why" of this phone: I don't worry about the phone calls or emails, or the disconnect warning; they work, but really, who cares? I like my Proximity because of the time sync feature.

I travel a great deal, and get pretty tired of re-setting my watch when I hit a new time zone. I have other watches that deal with time zones, but none as easily as this one. With the Proximity, as soon as the plane lands and I turn on my iPhone, I connect my watch -- and my Proximity is correctly set to the phone company's time tick, without my doing another thing. I LOVE that part.
