Well, I've apparently stepped on a very sensitive and historically energized topic. My apologies for that is all I can offer.
I don't drink Kool Aid, and I guess I will leave it at that.
"Purists" eh...you say that like it's a good thing. Who are these purists and why should I care what they are saying? I guess if we want to talk about "purists", I have seen a persistent group of "purists" (snobs?, nitpickers?, curmudgeons?...maybe, but who am I to say), that have a problem with the IWC brand itself. I guess it all depends on how far you want to take your "purist" notions . These "purists" refer to the Aquatimer line from IWC as a distraction of the brand often referring to the styling as cartoonish and nothing more than a gussied up fashion watch. These "purists" point to IWC as a brand that has lost its traditional design virtues to pursue sales from the uneducated masses that flock to the next shiny object. Hmmm...really?
Do I agree with these purists?...eh hem...well no, as I've always appreciated the Aquatimer line from it's early vintage compressor design, to the excellent 3536, to the more recent Aquatimer lineup.
I certainly enjoy excellence in design, including design cohesiveness with excellent fit/finish and quality materials. Am I so rigid that I also don't appreciate a bit of design diversity within a brand? Nope. I also appreciate the heritage of the established big brands, and the nimbleness of the micros that build quality timepieces.
I guess I simply can't hang with these purist, elitist snobs...their absolute adherence to traditional structure and design may be just a bit too rigid for me, as I do believe there is room in this hobby for both tradition and classic designs, but also diversity in design that brings fun into the hobby as well...but what do I know?
To each his own.if you noticed I too snickered at what the purists are saying...have not seen any negativity about the Aquatimer though...so I guess you feel this new Poseidon design is just another unique addition to the Prometheus folly of imaginative designs all their own.
