Of course there are metric regulars, but the problem here is probably the use of a jewelers screwdriver. The heads are usually filed way too thin. I've found that a good electricians flathead works great; and you can even put a bit of electrical tape around the head to ensure no scratches.

In my engineering opinion (I'm no watchmaker, but I am an engineer :) ), link screws are the largest thread found on a watch - thus the torque used to tighten/loosen is beyond what a regular watchmaker's driver is designed to handle.
