Info on Fortis B-42 and screw down crowns, B-42 Marinemaster especially: Fortis had an issue with stripped crowns. Either due to misuse (crossed threads) or due to QC issues, the true reason we will never know. Fortis does repair all stripped screw down crowns on warranty - free of charge. All Fortis service centers worldwide, regardless where the watch was purchased. In the US this is the Providence Watch Hospital, with lots of Kudos recently on WUS. On the B-42 series the old crown system will be replaced with a new developed system not employing a screw down crown anymore (something like double acting gaskets). The WR of 200m is not affected by this, the system works very well. In fact, back in October 2006 the German watch magazine "Uhrenmagazin" has tested dive watches including the B-42 Marinemaster. This test was hotly discussed over at WUS, because initially a DOXA SUB750T Pro and a Breitling SO Steelfish XL failed (nobody whined about the MIDO that also failed...). The Fortis B-42 Marinemaster hold all tests, running fine when pressurized to 25 bar under water for 1 hour (this is ISO standard: rated pressure +25%), no water intrusion. The only critque issued to the Fortis was the missing divers extension on the butterfly clasp of the rubber strap (the steel bracelet's clasp does have the divers extension though). They tested the Fortis on the rubber strap to keep it in the "below 1000 EUR" range - otherwise she would clearly have beaten all the other watches, also in the "below EUR 2000" range, especially considering the "value for money" aspect. That test made me a very happy owner - having purchased my personal B-42 Marinemaster months before the test came out. Remark: Anybody wants that test report? German only, PDF, 2.7MB - PM me your email addy and note "German test report divers watches"
