I don't have a Tissot QUARTZ, but I do have a Seiko SKA281 Chronograph (BECAUSE MY WIFE GAVE IT TO ME). I took it to my local watchguy and paid $15 for a battery change with "free lifetime replacement". So, did this guy ask you to bend over while you were talking to him??? BTW.....BATTERIES SUCK!
