Ever been excited because you got one of the last items, then frustrated,  then irritated with an e-mail  that an item was suddenly on a 37 day back-order , then never ever get the product? I have. Have you ever heard " we have less than 2 per state" ?  I have. Well from the 2004 corporate filling on page 7 of the acrobat file under other Initiatives.

"We also introduced an oversell initiative in 2004. Before this initiative, when we sold out of
an item, customers trying to purchase it were told it was sold out. Recognizing that a
percentage of our orders are canceled before they ship, we instituted the oversell process –
much like airlines overbook – to sell canceled product before it is canceled. This has resulted
in two benefits – happy customers who get product they want instead of being told it is sold
out, and better margins achieved by selling inventory when it is fresh."

Yeah but when the Airlines have overbooked me, ( I either got bumped up to first class or got a Voucher for the equivalent of a free trip.)  that always made me a happy camper.  But I have never been bumped and left empty handed ( I guess that SNBC has a flaw in there happy customer model, unless  if they lose less than 25% of the customer base that it is consider a success).]
