 I think your'e right about this being an existing model with a different strap.  I'm hesitant to say whether the strap is better or worse than the original without knowing what it is.  I have a 2832 which has a carbon fiber dial.  The strap on my watch has two metal pieces that are supposed to represent the "air intakes" on the S1 racing car.  The SHOPNBC number was J155744.  I don't think they have any left.
