That inconvenience might be what some online sellers are counting on to discourage you from returning it and to take it to a local watchmaker, at your expense, instead. (I once had to ship a suede leather jacket back and forth to Orvis 7 times before the problem was corrected! Luckily, for me, Orvis has outstanding customer service and the shipping was all at their expense....but the time it took...:( )
