I saw a fashion watch the other day, think it was a Kenneth Cole, with what was called a "HEMATITE FINISH". Now being a chemist I know that hematite is the scientific name for red rust iron oxide. It gave the watch case a sort of deep copper color. Is it a vapor deposit oxide layer? I think on the right piece it would like pretty nice. Any idea how it is done? How durable are these types of case finishes?
