I was making my way through the hospital I work in when I walked past two surgeons and I heard the magic words "Blancplain Flyback." Well, that stopped me dead in my tracks, and I quickly inserted myself into their watch conversation.

The Cardio-Thoracic surgeon Alex was showing the Vascular surgeon Jeff his new watch... enter the lowly PACS Administrator. Alex held up his wrist for me to see and asked if I knew what his watch was... Did I pick it up? Oh yeah, from six feet I knew it was a Glashutte Original Senator of some sort. When I responded with the correct information his jaw dropped. He told me I was damn good and that one in 100 would have known what he was wearing. He went on to tell me he had been eyeballing perpetuals for some time and decided on the Glashutte rather than a Patek which he felt was overrated. I couldn't agree or disagree having never handled one...

We went on to exchange watches with me being the low man on the totem pole with my Alpina. Amazingly, they were impressed with it! Jeff had a Tag Aquagraph which was very sweet too, but the Glashutte was incredible. A beautiful rose gold case, exceptional looking and complicated movement and super dial work with a lot going on in a rather subdued fashion. Very hefty. I was most impressed with the leap year indicator just under the brand's logo.

Working in a hospital In Green Bay, Wisconsin lets me rub shoulders with collectors that have far more discretionary income than I do, but there are only a few WIS among them since we are located in the far North... not too very cosmopolitan! Many will grab a Rollie or Tag without having any knowledge of what they are getting into, but only a few truly love watches. To my knowledge, there are only three WIS among the physicians. One a UN aficionado, Alex who sports Glashutte, Rolex, IWC and Graham and Jeff who favors Tag and Rolex.

And the Blancplain Flyback?? Well, Alex should've had that delivered yesterday. I asked him his address so I could stake out the place...
