Here are your results:
You'll note out of 22 starters 8 cars finished. this was a race of attrition for certain as many of the teams are still working out the kinks. You'll also see quite a few cars gone out with accident or damage. There was some wild wheel to wheel contact racing going on. Very cool to see. If you finished the race, you were in the points... well except Rubens Barrichello who exited the pits under a red light.This after his lollipop man cut him loose while fueling which sent his crew sprawling.
Lewis Hamilton lead pretty much from pole to flag with a couple lead changes around pitting. He ran fast and clean and made no mistakes. His greatest advantage was being out front and away from danger.
Also notable was Sebastien Bourdais who drove a smart race and found himself in P4. He held off both Fernando Alonso and Heikki Kovalainen. Unfortunately his engine blue with one, yes ONE to go!!
Ferarri surely must consider the Australian GP a disaster. Masa suffered damage in the early stages and had to retire. Kimi was running hard but for whatever reason the team held him out of the pits with little rubber and almost no fuel. Kimi managed to go off and nearly get caught in a gravel trap. He pitted and was again running hard and had closed the gap between himself and Timo Glock when he spun out. It all made no difference as his ride eventually stopped running altogether.
Timo Glock had a nice run but went wide and got launched off the terrain. He came down hard on the track and was broken. Amazingly his car did not smash into a wall. This initiated one of the three safety car periods.
All in all some very enjoyable viewing. They'll do it all again in a week in Malaysia.
