Eta and Sellita have had a interesting completion of sorts over the last year or so. We have seen quite a few changes over oh what at least the past couple years or more maybe. And this Swatch Group pinch is even affecting movements in Japan and China and may trickle into Russia too.

We all have come to know the 26-jewel SW200 over the last year, keeps time with sufficient accuracy to earn chronometer certification from the COSC. More new calibers debuted in 2006. SW220 and SW240 targeting the Eta Calibers 2834 and 2836 (with displays for the date and day of the week). Another is the SW300 targeting the 2892-2 and coming is a SW100 targeting lady's watches. And then the SW500 designed to compete with the Eta Valjoux 7750. To me the 7750 is the top tier Swiss movement aside from big house in-house custom movements. Will the SW500 give the 7750 a run for the money like the SW200 has with the 2824's?

I wonder if the Swatch Group had factored and or figured all this in when they put the pinch on Eta? So far I'd have to say Sellita is holding it's own. The jury was out for me at first but I have watched and listened and for the most part they seem to have done well. I have at least one and so far it holds time very well, it's in my Serket Reef diver 2.0. I have no problems at all in buying more watches with SWXXX movements now myself.

What dose the future hold for us with movements from China, Japan and Russia? Will anyone else try to get into the mainstream movements game?
