Yeah--sort of take your choice; they're basically the same thing except some say

Fly-back Hand, (retrograde date hand)
Usually, a hand indicating a date or time against a scale and then "flies back" to catch up with to another date or time.

Flyback hand
A seconds hand on a chronograph that is used to determine lap or finishing times for several competitors. Both the flyback and the regular second hand are set in motion, then to record a lap or finishing time, the flyback hand can be stopped. After taking the results, push a button and the flyback hand will catch up to the constantly moving second hand.

Basically, retrograde means:   to move in a direction contrary to the usual one

So, your retrograde minute hand will go to 60 and then snap backwards to the zero (reverse direction/counterclockwise)

Gerald Genta's the brand to check out; he does retro hours, mins, secs--the whole 9 yds.

Thanks for everything guys.  I guess I just didn't realize that you had to host the pic somewhere else. The sites that I am familiar with that don't host the pics won't even let you do thumbnails so I guess it didn't click.

Can someone here fill me in on what "Retrograde" means. I know it refers to the hand that sweeps back and forth instead of around and around, but is there any history or significance other than that? Why that word to describe it?
