Ken, I could not agree with you more!! I sold jewelry and worked as a mid-level jeweler for over 8 years and I never understood why anyone would pay a fistload of cash for any brand that was simply a quartz watch! I always did my very best to sell either automatics of any brand, Citizen Eco-Drives, and Seiko kenetics to the majority of my customers!! To be honest, the store made a killing off simply replacing batteries for people. The store would charge 9.95+Tax for each battery replaced. I did most of these battery change outs with a simple watch tools avialable to anyone on the web. I was simply amazed at the number of quartz replicas that I encountered...but back to the batteries. The store paid .12 cents per battery max...sometimes less depending on the market which showed a pure profit of $9.83 per watch. You do the math, that is one hell of a profit margin!! Tim.
