Driving myself crazy right now! I've been saving for a new watch for awhile now. Would really like a GMT-model I can use daily for work. But there are soooo many choices! Now I see alot of you guys have quite big collections and I just can't fathom the $-amounts I see. First of all I'm quite picky about things I buy in general. And the watches I'm looking at now will be the most expensive buy by far. It's scary to think of the money I'm spending even. So I'm looking at one watch over here, and then another over there...and so on. Want to get it just right. I've had my mind set on a fortis gmt with black dial for awhile. Then I went by a store yesterday and saw the fortis with white dial and tried that on. Which I guess wasn't so smart, I kinda fell in love with the hands on it! Only negative thing about it is the lack of lume, well there is some, but not alot. I'd like alot....enzo-lots. ;) Imagine this watch with all the white being lume! woohoo.gif ![]() ![]() I always thought that the hands where more light-blue then what I was yesterday. They where mostly very dark which I liked. So how do you guys choose your watches? Maybe you have more money to spend on watches so your spending levels might be higher, but I should guess you have faced similar decisions. What are your factors for buying, knowing that you won't be able to buy something new for quite some time afterwards. Oh and what do you think about the two watches above? ;) |

Well, your 1st question has more answers to it than days in a year...personally, from a style standpoint, I like watches with a "clean" look, mostly military/aviator and/or diver. Must be automatic...GMT is my favorite complication regardless of the way it is contrived (separate hand, bezel, et al). As to manufacturer, I have everything from Seiko to Rolex (and yes, even Invicta)! 2nd question...I luv those Fortis. I am usually no a white dial kinda guy, but that one is great...I also don't usually go for "open" hands, but, again, those are extremely well done! |

wow that whitedialed one is a real stunner, you could always get the watch lumed to taste at industrial watch works they want 185.00 to relume my chrono, and lume the numerals which are not lumed right now, that price also included painting all my hands either black or red. whats those gmt's going for? |

You sound like me...When I buy it's what I really want...I don't impulse buy and I ask myself do I really want/need this watch. I don't sell watches to buy others so when I buy it's for life unless the watch doesn't fit me properly...So basically if you like it and can't do without...... buy it....if not...keep looking. Good luck! |

Depending on what your collection currently consists of... mine is almost always all black... so that white dial is certainly a beauty.. and always am looking for keepers of different looks... I just might be tempted to grab the white dial one if it was me. |

I say keep looking if your unsure because the watch you want just havent appeared yet (meaning the watch you want and those that you've seen havent spoke to you) Now on the otherhand, if you just want many and cant decide on which to buy first then buy the one that you can live with and keep saving for the others. Probaly the samething Greg said................(i PUT MY SPIN ON IT) |

I'm not sure what the question(s) is/are... Do you need to decide between one of these two? That going to be purely personal. And the white dialed might be lume. Behold: ![]() My B-42 is the luminous dial which kicks butt. I woould guess this one is not with the skeletonized hands. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these. You will enjoy the quality you'll find in these Fortis watches. |

Well I am leaning towards maybe getting the white-dialed one. But My question was more in the line of what kind of reasoning you do when buying wathces? What are your justifications? I have somewhat strict restrictions about buying what most would consider "luxury items". Regardless of the actuall cost. So when I am now looking at theses two watches, and a few others with GMT like the Ball Hydro, I find myself asking myself questions like do I really want it, do I need it, is it worth the money and so on. I read some comments here about comparing to the collection and how it would fit in, thats a something I haven't really considered but maybe will now. Are there any other questions you ask before pulling the trigger? And yes Gregger I'm probably somewhat like you in that regard, I buy to keep. I want to get it right the first time. Most of the time that means going over and doing quite alot of research. And rarely it means seeing something for the first time and just knowing that I HAVE to get it! The enzo emv was like that too me as an example. Another was a leather jacket I saw when I was 16 in a store. It was to big by far but I just knew I had to get it, and so I did. Didn't grow into it until I was about 20. ![]() Paxman I have seen that watch and I really like the idea with the lumed dial. This one is not like that though. Only some lume on the squares by the hour-markings and on the tips of the hands. But it would really ROCK to have it full lume like in your picture! yourock.gif |

In all honesty I go into it from an annual perspective. I recognize I am going to buy watches during the year and I don't make any bones about it. I have a consulting gig which provides me with some discretionary income free and clear of responsibility. Therefore I have a pretty good idea of what my maximum annual budget can be. I may enhance that via sales and/or sacrifice. With that budgetary info in hand I have then to choose what piece or pieces I would like to obtain that year. I can go for one grand watch or several very nice ones. I try to have a goal watch I will obtain during that year. That said, things change and sometimes rapidly in the WIS world. I may be bitten by the bug for one or another watch. Another ember may offer something I have coveted. Things can get complex and make it difficult to stay on track. As long as I stay within my discretionary income budget I don't worry too much about if the watch is worth its price. If I want it and it is priced at a fair market value then it is all good. I haven't found one yet that arrives far below expectations. The way I look at it is that I don't drink, hunt, have a powerboat or second home and this is my "safe" hobby. Hell I know folks who drop 1k a month on bar tabs... I'm not kidding... this is Wisconsin. My family comes first... always! Does that help?? IMHO you will not be dissatisfied with a Fortis. |

Sorry but I only read the first post (time constraints), if I was buying one of the two than I would get the black. The orange GMT hand is important to pick up at a quick glance and the second had being orange also is handy to me. I often have to time things that last less than a minute. |

That is really interesting. Now I'm quite new to watches in general, and I don't really have an income that i can plan ahead the way you do. Wish i did though ;) Thanks for sharing! It's nice to have my curiousity alleviated. I am sure that I would be very satisfied with anyone of the fortis watches. I just have to make a choice wether or not this is the one watch for me for quite some time. And if I will feel comfortable to spend the money in this way. I guess my mothers words are inprinted in my head. "A xxx? But you already have a xxx, why do you need another?" Where xxx equals just about everything from hockeysticks to lego-sets ;) But who knows, maybe I'll get a new job soon that will allow me to spend more. And I just like you in that last part Paxman, I don't drink (that much anyway ;) ), smoke (well cigarr at newyears but that doesn't count) , have an expensive car and so on. |

abrizz, what you are feeling is the onset of the addiction. We are all addicts and if you are looking for rationale for how we justify buying another watch, I think this just might be the wrong forum.Bouncy.gifYou will buy the white and then down the road you will say, "boy, I really would like a black one to wear with this jacket" and then it begins. I say this based on my past experience and my 3-4 dozen watches (I don't count them, but my wife can tell you exactally how many) and my failure to curb the habit. ![]() |

Haha I can imagine that is where I will end up! lol smile8.gif But I actually do find it interesting, the way different people think about this sort of...collecting. Was gonna write madness but not ready to take the first step I guess ;) It has think it has alot to do with how you look at watches and your taste in watches. |

(I also stay away from white dials - mostly because I find them harder to read - but I DO like that Fortis with those blue hands!) |

Haha I know the feeling slinky! Thats basicly what happened with me and the enzo, just knew I had to get one! =) So I've been in contact with cnmark about getting one of the fortis watches. Anyway I got to thinking about what other watches there are there are in that pricerange. So what gems do you think I might be missing with the pricetag around $1300 give or take $100 ? You know I like fortis and enzo, I like the flieger look in general I guess, and I like GMT's. I've been looking att Ball too, but I'm not sure if they might get too spaced out in the long run. Like the gmt-model with wide tubes though. |

Take the left one with the white lume. It is fantastic for a night flight/drive, tested and proven:) |
