And it sold pretty quickly, too!! Not my cup of tea, but the G-Shocks do have rabid following.

Wow $600 could buy something really nice imo, at least much nicer than that.

Yea they do seem to have quite the following. My limit on one would peak at about $150 and that is if it was real nice and that was a sale price. :D

The one I have I bought on sale for about $90 and was regular at about $125. :)

My taste for digitals went out in the mid-nineties when I became aware that there

were diver watches out there.  I stumbled across the first, and it's history from there.

Hi.  My name's Steve and I like G-Shocks.  crap.gif

Diver/Auto's are my preference and I would never pay that kind of money for a G but I like em and think they get a bad rap.  Let's look at the stats!

* Light weight but still tougher than anything out there.  Water resistant to 200m.  Multiple functions like stopwatches and world-time zones and etc.  Great backlight.  Much more accurate than a mechanical.  And at fraction of the cost of a low-mid range auto.

But then again... it is quartz and thus ....  has no soul.  Maybe that's the reason many folks don't like them.

OK.... Flame on!

Hey Steve,

No flame from me, just making an observation. I agree at $150 or less, you cant find a better all around watch to wear.

I know and thanks guys.  I'm just messing around and being a PITA.  Sort of poking a finger in the eye of mechanical snobbery.  Not indicting anyone in particular.  I think the G's get marginalized by some purists.

Someone has to stick up for em.  Might as well be me!  Yo Oscar!  You got my back?!

My G-shock gets allot of use. It is my all around beater and I use it to set my clocks and watches as well as gage accuracy of all things mechanical. ;) Thank goodness it is light powered. :D

I don't have a problem with quartz watches, In fact I have great respect for the "uber" chronometers that the big brands continue to play the one oneupmanship game over.. doesn't mean I would spend that kind of money on one but the drive for technical perfection I appreciate none the less.

On a practical note I always travel with a solar atomic G-shock, it's never wrong and I have actually had watches die on me while traveling!

I've got a whole display box of quartz watches, and I quit going to Sunday school the day my teacher told me they were soulless. (even though I am guilty of saying the same thing)

they do too have a soul!

I see that the Brazilian G-Shocks are really collectable, as are the ICERC and some others.  I love my G-Shock for gigs, it will take a direct hit from a drumstick without harm.

Sorta like the really collectable Zippos, I could easily spend over $1K on a mint Mickey Mouse but I won't.  Same with an RCA Nipper, 1969 Moon Landing commemorative and plenty others.  My limit for a collectable Zippo is $100, any more than that and I would be in serious trouble...

I have plenty of quartz, Eco Drive and battery and they all get worn and enjoyed just like my mechanicals.  I am wearing an Eco Drive now hand6.gif

Cheers,
Griff
