Love pocket watches. :) Have a couple quartz ones in the drawer with dead batteries I recieved as gifts about a decade ago. LOL :D

I've been thinking of getting a nice hand cranker for days I may want to give the wrist a rest or just have a second watch on hand.

BTW that Elgin is sweet! hearteyes.gif

Mine was inherited from my namesake and grandfather. He worked as a railway electrician before opening the funeral home. He was given this Illinois chronometer grade 1918-1923. Keeps good time.

I have 6 pocket watches, a couple of which are Elgin's. The thing about pocket watches is that during the depression alot of the gold cases were replaced by steel for the money, so their are alot of watches out there not in there original case. Therefore the movement becomes the important thing. Open it up and take the serial number and use this site.

http://elginwatches.org/databases/elgin_sn_intro.html

This will tell you when it was made and a description of the movement. The most valuable pocket watches are the railroad grade and are usually bigger then this one. This looks like it is in beautiful shape.

I'd estimate the Elgin is worth somewhere around  $150-$200.

Cases are incidental (they were sold seperately) and are basically only worth money if they are solid gold.

The Bunn Special would probably bring $375-$400 depending on what kind of shape the dial is in.

That's actually good.  As long as there aren't chips of enamel missing or excessive hairline cracks, the value isn't lessened too much.

That watch is on my "Must Own" list.
