First off, I know this thread is useless without pics……I will try to add some later. This weekend I bought an older Omega watch in an antique shop…the serial number on the bumper wind Caliber 343 movement dates it to 1947 or 1948 and the case looks like a stainless 1948 Seamaster case….the one with the thick lugs (Those of you familiar with Pacifichrono’s 1948 gold Seamaster will know what I mean). The only strange thing is the dial does not say “Seamaster”….it simply says “Automatic Chronometer”. Research on Omega’s site and other web resources show make me think this watch is either quite rare or not on the up and up. All the markings seem consistent and correct and the dial looks 100% correct with the exception of the missing word “Seamaster”. Just wondering if there are any experts out there who have seen something like this or could point me towards a definitive source of info on older Omegas. |

Thanks for the link, O. The watch isn't in great condition, so I'll probably wind up spending a bunch more on it. |

The price might lead me to believe that it's fake, especially if it's running, and definitely if the movement has been recently serviced (or advertised as recently serviced). But if it's just a beat-up old watch that needs plenty of work, then the price sounds about right. You're not out much money, in any event. |

Now that I see the pics, I think it's legit. Not that I'm an expert, though. |

I seriously doubt it is fake, but I am pretty sure it is a frankenwatch. |

Well 1948 was the first year for the Seamaster so they could have toyed with the look at first too. |
