I have been looking for one of these for a couple years and finally found a source who had some about as NOS as could be hadhand6.gif....it is a 70's Bulova Oceanographer666 with the rare"motor drive quartz"....a Quartz Watch with a Heart Ken!!!hearteyes.gif...I snagged a few hummers/electronic as well to add to my Vintage collection along with a Rado Green Horse....I hope to have this Bulova next week sometime from HKyahoo.gif Pics courtesy of seller     |

Wow, That is neat. Battery operated heart. Was that new?- Back in the 70's. I know there were ALOT of battery powered watches then.(90%) But I never thought in to it. Just assumed battery and tiny circuts. Last edited on Tue May 20th, 2008 10:28 pm by daanbc |

Dave...it is a stepping movement and was not used much in watches for long...therefor pretty rare and inexpensive collectable...he "Edsel" of watch movements because it was inpractical as the battery wore down quick due the work it had to do driving the motor and no recharging of the battery as in todays kinetic/rotor watches which use a conpensator to recharge the battery...but it is pretty cool imhohand6.gif |

But I like different. Edsel's are great. Do you remember the AMC Marlin? I had a 66. Looked a little liked the barracuda back then. |

TY....I do remember the AMC's and still own a 70 Javelin SST w/Go Packhand6.gif ....I also picked up a very rare vintage Invicta Swissonic(pre Eyal)...with a Swiss Waltham 9154 electronic movement similar to the Bulovas but with a balance wheel...I will get some pics up of the watch and sweet movement...again a Quartz watch with a heart!yourock.gif |

Congrats on all the cool pickups Oscar. Can you explain how the motor drive works? Does it still have the jumping second hand or is it stepped down to have a smoother movement around the dial? Nice clean look on the Oceanographer too... yourock.gif |

Outstanding! I really like the funky movements that various watchmakers were experimenting back in the 70's; not only your Bulova "hybrid" and the hummers, but the funky digitals, early solars, etc...very cool in historical perspective. I have always wondered why the more modern hybrids have not done better - Seiko's kinetic aside, there were "auto quartz" from Miyota, and even Bulova has a kinetic-type version (forget the name)...very cool. And yes, a 70 Javelin is a sweet ride; I would prefer the AMX due to the nose, but hey, from what I hear, those stock 390's could really fly! And if I recall the Javelin set a bunch of speed records due to the aero package...who knew? LOL! |

Hey O, What you can't see in the pic is my casio calculator watch. Boy did we think we were cool then.(LOL) Im glad I kept that pic. We were 16 thinking we new everything. By the way, I'm the one with the shirt! That's the only pic I have of my 66 Marlin.  |

Too cool! Still looking for a mint 214 Deep Sea, and those Oceanographers are sweet. A Javelin! Man, I remember the heyday of those cars, a friend's dad had one and took us for rides, he would romp on it just to get us to holler...the good ole days...hand6.gif Congrats Oscar! Cheers, Griff |
