Guys, I'm in the market for a new 6 or 8 watch winder. Requirements (1) inexpensive (2) quite (3) storage for additional watches and (4) must have pillows large enough to hold divers sized for a 7.5" wrist. Right now I use tissues to make the fit snug when that watches are on the winder. Also, I could use a case to hold a decent amount of watches, maybe a dozen or so. What do you suggest. Thanks, Keith |

I would recommend Steinhausen 8 winder. I have this on order now and should receive it shortly; I have the Steinhausen dual watch winder and it works great with no problems and very quiet motor. I am replacing my Sammy 8 winder...works ok buth with serious motor noise. Not sure of storage box...Good Luck..Tim. |

I have not looked in a while to see what is available in the lower price range winders. May need to soon. :) But if looking for a good watch case that can hold at least 51mm watches check out the ones at JTVwatches. Very well made for the price. I've seen cases go for twice as much with not half the quality of those at JTV. I have 3 of the 9 slot. Thinking of getting a bigger one soon maybe. Durring the Watch Show the prices at times are even much lover. I got 3 for nearly the price of one that way. ;) http://www.jtvwatches.com |

For winders and cases on the cheap try this: http://www.acetimer.com/8winder.htm Don't know much about the winders in terms of motor noise... |

the subject of winders comes up every 6mos. and has been beaten to death imhocoyote2.gif...cheap winders can hurt your watches more than doing any good so stay away!......buy a Orbita which can be programmed to wind your exact watch by using their extensive database(do a search as it is on 3T)hand6.gif....I have tried these cheap winders and they are sitting here winding nothing...:D If you must buy a cheap winder the only one I reccomend is the Steinmart single watch winder ...winds 1 hr. and is off for 2...which I use for my Seikos and such that costs around $25....tested by many and proved to work fine yourock.gif....my collection is large and I rarely use a winder but when I do I use only Orbitas for my higher end watcheswatch2.gif |

I hear you on the cheap thing. I use a timer on the one I have so that it shuts off after a period of time. Has worked well for me for the past several years. |

I have learned through experience that most all winders are noisy or will get that way over usage...cheap winders have a tendency to not do the job especially with the larger and heavier models we are experiencing todaycoyote2.gif I have seen the steinmart winders for as low as $19.99 on the bay and they work fine...but if you want a good winder at a reasonable price buy a Orbita!.....(see link for their extensive database) they can be programmed to the exact # of revolutions your watch needs dailyhand6.gif http://www.orbita.net/pages/17100.htm Watchcases are simple and so far I agree with Skip on the JTV watchcases as being the very best for $ spent....but wait until they have show specials and you will save big time....I have over dozen varieties of cases full and the JTV boxes are by far the nicest around.....and always buy a box with more slots than you need as it will get filled! ![]() |

BOSCHETT wrote: I hear you on the cheap thing. That is good. You do want to allow for rest time with automatic watches. Continual winding really can damage them. I have some Orbita and a few others can't think of the brand that are also programable but I bought the last 4 the guy had and he has no more. :D LOL Nice quite and like prograbable setup to the Orbita. And I have some cheep 8 slot winders my Seikos, Alba's and Russians are on with a timer were I run them twice a day for an hour. Setup works fine. ;) |

I don't know much about winders but for a case, I recommend a Pelican case. They aren't pretty but, with their pick and pluck foam, they offer excellent protection for travel or storage. |

Little late to the discussion, but I've got a 8 winder that I bought off eBay; yes, one of the "cheapies" at under $90 shipped. It's working perfectly to date. No issue keeping my watches wound and it's super silent. It's the second winder I've bought off the bay (the first was a 4 winder) and both have worked perfectly (the 4 was a little noisy). ![]() |
