I'll second the vote to look into the "Sumo".  Very impressive watches, and I'll echo Shady's comment about the fit/finish.  Just note that we're talking about the watch on the left of Shady's picture.  The other is a 300m MarineMaster...and is at least 3x your current budget of $500.

The Sumo should run you around $400 on a bracelet for either blue or black.  I always like blue dials, so would recommend that.  They make an orange, but you have to buy the bracelet separately, and it ends up more than either the blue or black.

Don't feel slighted by the Citizens you have experience with.  Try contacting them.  There are even two forums that I know of where an actual Citizen employee posts responses to questions customers have.  I have seen them answer and solve an issue online within 12 hours.  That's some amazing customer service to me.  You should be able call them, and then send the failed watches in for examination.  They have really good customer service, and if they do want to charge you for something, their charges are very reasonable (I'll bet they'll stand behind the product though and help you out even though it's not 'under warranty'...I've heard that happen quite a few times).  Don't expect anything for 'free' but I wouldn't surprised if it is.

And good luck finding 'the right one' ;).  I think I'm still looking myself...:P

Thanks for the Scubapro suggestion Hucky.  I forgot they made watches.  Topher thanks for the info on Citizen.  I will see what they can do for me.

As for the watches, I narrowed it down to the DeBaufre Ocean 1, Boschett RR and Tissot Seastar 1000.  I actually have a strong front runner..But I'll save that for later.

I stopped by some local jewelry and watch stores today and was not able to find a single model I was looking for.  I was able to find some Accutrons at a popular chain store and try them on, but not the VX-200.  I did like the feel of the skeleton Accutron I tried on though.

I also found a Tissot dealer/ watch repair store in the same mall.  I was not able to get my hands on a Seastar, I guess it is discontinued (I do know it is available online though).  I tried on some models for kicks and liked quite a few, I am going to keep my eye on Tissot as they have a neat selection.  The salesperson helping me was surprisingly non pushy and very knowledgable....especially compared to the last mall salesperson I dealt with who didn't know the warranty for a watch he was showing me was (mind you he had a big honking badge on his shirt with the logo of said watch and representative typed below it!).

Anyways I'll let everyone know what I decide and thanks again for all the help!

David

The Reef Ranger or Sumo is where I'd spend my $$.  If I did not have a couple of swiss auto divers the Reef Ranger would probably get the nod....  But since I do, I'm saving for the Sumo right now.

Happy Hunting!

All,

Thanks so much for the input and advice.  It is very much appreciated.  I have decided ....it will be the Boschett Reef Ranger in Blue!
