There was a thread on another forum about this. The general consensus seems to be that the 'A' is a mistake that has gotten perpetuated time and time again. I've looked in the archive Oscar previously posted and find no reference to it and it's not in ETAs catalog. But, I've found more than one place where it is listed as the movement in a watch. Kobold Soarway Diver 'SEAL' is just one instance of this and you would think that Kobold knows what they're putting in their watches. I also have found parts for it at Otto Frei. If you look for ETA 2824 parts they also give a list of other movements that a particular part will fit. ETA 2824-A2 is listed as one of those movements for some of the parts. Is this a real movement? or like some think, just a perpetuated mistake? This has been bugging me for several days now and I haven't found any definitive answers to this question. In my mind I have answers supporting both sides of the issue:?. Any help from more knowledgable WIS would be appreciated. |

If I recall right the lettering is not original with the Eta movements. It is with Seiko movements and I think some just adopted it over time but not sure about that. the A2 suffix is generally used when a module is added to a base movement for more functions/complications....ie: chrono,moonpahse etc....the eta 2892-A2 is a prime example of a movement where a module is piggybacked to add a chrono function as used on the Omega Dynamic....DuBois Dpraz uses a 2824-A2 for the DD2040 chrono movement:) ...all I can think why some companies are stating eta 2824-A2 is that due to the lack of eta's some of these moduled eta A2's are being bought and modded back to "base eta 2824's" and the A2 is staying with the movement caliber....I have an e-mail into a friend at eta to get the lowdownhand6.gif |

Thanks Skip for the links and Thank You Oscar for the willingness to call on one of your contacts. I've been trying to figure this thing out for about a week now and the lack of information has had me beating my head against the wall. I've kept chasing it though because I felt like there was something to it and that it was possibly bigger than a little mistake that was repeatedly perpetuated. |
