Hi all,

New here. I have a question about a newly purchased watch with a quartz movement. The watch has a Swiss Ronda Q Movement but seems to have a little play in the hands when the crown is pulled out and time is set. Not a lot but just seems the hour hand kinda moves in a strange sudden way. Is this normal? The watch is brand new and was shipped directly to me so I didn't have a chance to inspect it, well I do for 3 days. Crown also seems a bit loose when pulled out, almost like a very cheap watch.

Also the second hand does not line up with any of the second markers. Keeps good time so far but it kinda bothers me. I have had a Bulova for almost ten years now and its second hands still ticks and lines up with all the markers.

And lastly the bezel which rotates (kinda a Submariner Clone) is very tight to turn and does not center well on the clicks, sixty click style. I have to move the bezel back a bit to have it lined up correctly and its not supposed to move clockwise only counterclockwise.

Am I asking too much from a $300 watch or should it be returned to sender?

Thanks

I don't do quartz anymore much. Still have a handful but in the 80's and 90's went through over 50. And you should have better quality out of a $100 quartz watch than what your talking about. I would request a exchange maybe just a bad one or could have been damaged in shipping but that dose not sound good at all for a $300 quartz. :?

I didn't think so either but having only one other quartz, I just wasn't 100%.

I would expect more from a $300 watch. Bottom line; if you are not happy with it then don't keep it and return it! :D

I have several watches with Ronda movements and I like them and have never experienced the problems that you are talking about.  I will admit that mine are from better manufacturers like Gevril and Xemex but, in my experience they are accurate and dependable.  It sounds like you have either a defective one or a cheap watch with a good movement that was badly put together. If you are unhappy and can return it, I would.

Regardless of the price...if it bothers you, return it.  It does sound like poor quality control...or, at the very least, that one slipped thru the QC process.

No, I would have expected that from Invicta. ;)

It was one of these but with a black bezel http://www.timetechtalk.com/view_topic.php?id=11906&forum_id=48

They offered an exchange right away, which is good.

I just hope the exchange is a little better quality as this is a gift.

I own a number of quartz watches (10+). Having the second hand line up to the markers all the way around the dial isn't gonna happen on most quartz watches under $300. I have one Traser that is dead-on and a few others that hit their marks most of the way around. But, lots of watches (quartz) seem to only hit the marks half the time at best. At least that is my experience. :)

As for the stem being loose and the hands moving, none of mine exhibit that problem. Most likely it is a simple adjustment in the keyworks area or something akin to that. If it is real sloppy and it bugs you, send it back.

So my replacement watch shipped out today. Hopefully receive it Sat.

I just hope its in better condition than the first one and is suitable as a gift for my Brother for his wedding.

I would also hope that there is a check inside for the return shipping I had to pay. Not holding my breath on that one as they never once offered to reimburse or pay for the shipping to CA. Thumbsup3.gif

I'm happy to report a replacement Ocean-1 44 Magnum arrived at my house some time last night. The mailman delivered it to the wrong address on Sat. He left it on another neighbors porch across my neighborhood. Not the first time he's done this. I suppose Goosefoot Court seems very similar to Falling Leaf Drive.

Anyway, this replacement is of much better quality! Gone is the loose movement of the crown when in the set position as well as the hour hand jumping around. The bezel turns more solid and does not have the play I described before. The second hand also aligns very well with the markers.

Now this is the watch I read many reviews on and I can now attest to its quality. Very nice and I'm positive my brother will enjoy it.

I can understand why Giggleberry Way could be confused with Falling Leaf Drive...but not Goosefoot Court....Geez!  What is USPS coming to?  subtlelaugh.gif
