It helps to keep them going over the long haul, just 20 or so turns of the crown and that should do it for most movements. Always remember this is not a force thing if it is hard to wind then stop. It helps to combat pooling of the lubricating oils.
And if you have auto's you can not hand wind just shake several times and listen for that rotor spin. Something you can do if you don't use a automatic winder. ;)
