Question on this watch. This was my first auto watch. Bought it about 11 years ago. The problem i have been having since new is that i am lucky that it is still ticking in the morning after wearing all day. It doesnt have a winding feature. What is the power reserve on this? When I bought it, it was summer. I happened to be at the mall where i bought it during the Christmas season so I stopped in at the jeweler I bought it at. I asked if they could look at it. It was busy there. The manager came over to the guy that was helping me and told him to take care of a paying customer. So I was so pissed that I never bothered with it after that and never bought another Seiko. :X |

I would guess that watch should run 30-40 hours once it is fully wound. However, I would move the watch back and forward gently at least a hundred times. Then wear it all day and see how long she runs. Even a standard Swiss auto should be wound 15 - 20 turns (assuming it has stopped) before heading out. just because you wear it all day does not mean it is getting a full wind...that Seiko needs the rotor to turn 650-950 turns per day so in order to get an accurate power reserve reading you need to get it on a winder that is programable(orbita) to the tpd required and let it get a full wind and then check ithand6.gif |

Oscar is correct. Seiko and Orient automatic watches (most of them) are best put in a winder if you don't wear them every day. Just because you wear it all day doesn't guarantee the watch will be running the next morning if you leave it on the dresser all night. Like I said above, you need to move the watch back and forth several times (50 to a 100 minimum) to get a "wind" in the watch if it has run down completely. I recently bought an Orient with a Power Reserve and I was surprised how many times I needed to move the watch back and forth to get it to a full wind. It was A LOT!!! |

BTW, I don't think anything is wrong with the watch. It just isn't getting fully wound during the time you have it on your wrist. |

Scott, Here is a good, CHEAP winder you can use to help keep Seiko and Orient type automatic watches wound. It's plastic and inexpensive, but based on recommendations I bought several of these over a year ago and they run everyday. No problems. They are self-programmed. Just plug-in and they run for a bit and shut off, then repeat, etc. One of these should keep the old Seiko humming. Mike is right and I do have a few of these winders as do many WIS I know.....Steinmart used to have them for $20. and you can find many great reviews on this winder on the net....it winds for 1hr and shuts down for 2....It's a great winder to have aroundhand6.gif |
