Introduction: After doing some search for an uniquely different watch, that few people own and a name that is not too familiar in North America, until recently. I went and bought a used Rado Voyager in stainless steel with an aftermarket stainless steel bracelet in mint condition. Rado watches had few followers in it's lifetime, due to the fact of their ungainy and unimaginative design that looked too futuristic, especially if one were to compare a Rado Diastar Original to another brand of watches. I bought mine as an educational tool to help promote the sale of new Rado Watches, that this company didn't start up overnight. It has been around since 1917 when it was founded in Lengnau,Switzerland. The factory that employs 300 people is still there as we speak. In recent years Rado has sold more than 219,000,000 watches world wide, which is no small achievement by any standard. As an Authorized Rado Dealer, I am proud to be able show off my Rado Voyager to perspective buyers as a historic timepiece. Why the Voyager? you ask. Watches such as Golden Horse, Purple Gazelle,Purple Horse,Conway, Voyager and the Starliner are rare watches. Rado back then only sold 1,000 watches and then pulled the plug on these brands,to focus on high tech materials such as Ceramics and other scratch proof materials. Therefore, early Rado watches that is not the Diastar Original will be hard to find. If any members in 3-T have a Rado watch such as the ones I've mentioned hang on to them. About my Voyager The serial number on mine is 19802253, however this suggest that 5,000 Rado Voyagers were built between 1977-1981. But I can't detemine the exact year as to when mine was made. Cheers, Simon |

Quite a good vintage Rado forum http://www.equationoftime.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11 I quite fancy the Daymaster Green Horse in steel rather than gold. ![]() (eek, think I overwrite a previous post) Last edited on Sun Nov 16th, 2008 05:15 pm by cootuk |

Hi Cootuk, It won't be long until watches such as Rado Green Horse go up in value in the next couple of years. Those are really great watches and thank you for posting the pics. Cheers, Simon Last edited on Sun Nov 16th, 2008 05:27 pm by Simon_Leung |

My apologies to Mark for not mentioning Rado's Captain Cook. This was the company's first diving watch, that has a resemblance between a Diastar Original and the Rado Balboa. Thanks Mark for sharing the pics of your beautiful Rado. Cheers, Simon |

Rado makes a nice watch but as far as the older ones going up in value I highly doubt...unless you consider a few bucks here and there going up....I own at least a dozen from the 60's to present time and my Diastar Jubile' "Original Scuba" pictured below is the only one that I consider rare and going up in value due to it was only available in the middle east and the only one I have ever seen...the one pictured below was purchased in Saudi Arabia by JohnnyP and it took me 3 years to get it off his wrist :D...it has the inner rotating locking bezel w/diamonds and a very rare hologram dial that changes colors in the light and gives off an appearance of being textured...which it is nothand6.gif The other was recently purchased for under $100. on the Bay which is loaded with vintage Rados and has the 2 green horses w/day-date and near mint opposed to the single green horse and has once again a rare yellow dial...will it go up in price...maybe but once again very little $ imho...I also have the Voyager with diamond dial and a fully restored Capt. Cook which was the pre Diastar that we all know today...they are fun to research and collect...watch2.gif ![]() ![]() |

I took my Rado Voyager to work today and I popped the snap on back to look at the movment. I was surprised to find an ETA 2836 in 17 Jewels configuration with hacking mechanism. I've already feel like a 16 year old,who had just been given the keys to his own 1969 Mercedes Benz 300 SEL 6.3 Sedan! Could anyone tell me if this is an early version of the Rado Voyager?:) Thanks, Simon |
