What do you recommend as Christmas watch for the beloved wife from a WIS??

I am not sure I can swing a solid gold Rolex with pearl dial!! mistake.gif

My wife is looking for a bracelet style watch with gold or gold accents, date and second hand function as she is a RN.  She wants the dial to be clear and legible for a quick and easy read(white dial).

If you want to post pictures of what you have gotten your wife that would be great!!

The Pink Baby Lupah I bought her 5 years ago has gone south for the winter(crystal chipped and strap thrashed).  The citizen eco I got her is a little to flashy.

Thanks Guys and Gals for you help in advance.   Thumbsup3.gif

Tissot T-ring automatic was what I gave. No numbers just indices but it's got date and second hand and sapphire crystal with display back. 2-tone nice watchhand6.gif

Hey there you! ;)

Not sure how much you were thinking of spending but you can never go wrong with an Omega. I sold one of mine on the Bay last December for more than I paid for it! The bidding was fierce! Anyway, here are some suggestions from the smaller 27.5mm ladie's size to 39mm ... quartz and automatic ... yellow and rose ...

Ladies -

This is the one I had. The pyramid style hour markers glimmer like stars! It's one of the Cindy Crawford My Choice series ...

Men's - most mid size ...

http://www.amazon.com/Omega-Constellation-Perpetual-Calendar-1211-30-00/dp/B000QX542K/ref=sr_1_86?ie=UTF8&s=watches&qid=1227560651&sr=1-86

Hope this helps. Good luck! ;) :)

Delete that last post!  Sorry ... was having a blonde moment! :P What was I thinking?? crap.gif Now, what's your budget please?

Also, does she like the traditional ladie's size, midsize or larger watch?

And does she need a true nurse's watch - one with all the numerals or will 12, 3, 6 and 9 do? Or does she need any numbers at all? ;) :)watch2.gif

She would be fine with the numerals or numbers....normal ladies size, but maybe a mid size rolex.....price $2500.

... and here I thought I was way off budget! ;)

Does she have a preference for an automatic or quartz or does she care? Or do you? ;) :D

Would she like a white mother-of-pearl dial or does she want pure white? The pink Baby Lupahs had a silver dial. (if they were the ones on the pink strap) Would a silver dial be acceptable?

Does she prefer yellow or rose gold?

This is a Christmas gift ... do you need this right away or do you have some time? :)

aloy,

Thank you for your help.  I have until Christmas.

I am thinking the dial could be either pearl or white.

Automatics are fine and she loves yellow gold.

Morning SHADY!

No thanks necessary ... happy to help! Glad you're not in a rush - I was up til 1:30 last nite doing a preliminary search. Those traditional nurse's watches are not easy to find in or with gold in that price range, especially in an automatic. But I will keep looking. :) (and hopefully some of the other members will have some suggestions as well :D)

I checked out Rolex's site and didn't see anything, but I will call my jeweler who sells a ton of them.

I'm assuming you want to buy online ... or would you prefer to make this purchase at a jeweler/retailer?

One last question and this is crucial - do the numerals have to be Arabic or can they be Roman? Very important!!!! Thanks! :)

Alina

Roman or Arabic would be fine and she does like diamonds.

I am good with retail and or online.

Great recommendation Paul! ;)

Ohhh ... diamonds are ok! That helps a lot! I assumed they weren't when I read that the Citizen Eco was too flashy! And it helps that Roman numerals are ok too! I have a friend who's an LPN and she only shops a chain's case of "Nurse's" watches that have ONLY Arabic numerals.

K, I think I'm armed with all the info I need for the time being. I'll be pretty busy til after the holiday weekend. In the meantime maybe some of our other WIS brothers and sisters can help come up with some more recommendations as well! toon1.gif

I lied! I couldn't wait til after the holiday and was up again til 2:00 am last night and all of today. When I am on a mission, I'm obsessed!

So I have good news and bad. I'll start with the bad. I spoke with my jeweler and she told me that the Rolex DateJust that would fit your needs runs $7000 w/a 10% discount for $6300. An entry level on steel with no date would start at $4000. Sorry. :(

The good news is that I did finally find a watch I think you will like. (minus the diamonds at this price point - my search so far indicates that it's either the movement or diamonds, unless you're willing to up the $. :)) Here's the watch -

http://www.authenticwatches.com/baume-et-mercier-riviera-8783.html

Here's the company -

http://www.baume-and-mercier.com/home/home.aspx?ln=en

Baume Mercier is a brand  highly coveted by many women. I own two myself. This year's ambassadors are Ashton Kutcher and Teri Hatcher. Unlike most, they're donating their royalties to support the fight against cancer, the promotion of childhood education and helping underpriviledged women! cool10.gif

Anyway, if you like this watch, the site says free overnight shipping, but it also says it usually ships in 2-8 weeks, so you if you're interested you may want to call first and confirm. Also this company offers a 3 year warranty, plus an additional extended 3 yr warranty and a lifetime warranty you can purchase.  Also note the link at the bottom on how you can save an additional 5%. They also offer an Extended Holiday Return Policy til Jan 16th, but you have to tell them it's a gift when you place the order and request it. (My uncle owns this site! subtlelaugh.gif j/k!!!! :P )

Now, back to a project I started 3 days ago and then getting ready for Thanksgiving. Then I'll get back to looking for more watches for your lovely wife! And what an amazing wife she must be! hearteyes.gif Of course any suggestions from our 3T family members would be hugely appreciated! ;) :)

Wow alloy I am shocked at your dilligence and pursuit of a watch for my better half!!

I am familiar with the brand as I helped my boss pick out a capeland  for her husband to be as a wedding gift.

Wow tha watch looks awesome....I need to get her to look at it and see what her response would be.

I am at work, trying not to work but this is a pleasant diversion, and will be a big help.

I am surprised that this thread is not getting much feedback from the guys...what is up with that.

Sorry Shady, my budget is a lot less.  Tissot pretty much tops it but my wife has also received from me, 2 seiko 5s, 1 amber chaika, 3 Swatch automatics.  She inheirited the Victory that's my avi and bought one seiko 5 on her own.  She's been know to wear one of my Orients and my Trias as well.  I'd get her that Nomos suggested or a dressy vintage Omega too (I've been toying with that idea)  Oh wait, I'm already getting her an Orient of her own for christmas.  As you can tell there's lots of choices just in my budget range, you must be pulling your hair out with your amount of choices.

BTW, stolen pic.

A little OT but authentic watches.com mentioned earlier in this thread is a great company.  I have purchased a few things from them.

I am looking at a couple of online retailers on used Datejust Rolies.

TT with white dial.

She loves the Baumes...but I think she wants the Rolex.

I can trade in a watch to use as a depsoti against the watch.

I will send you the retailers in an IM and maybe you can help me this way.

shady.

Very nice Shady!!

Does that model have a plastic crystal.  Someting you might want to avoid if your wife is tough on watches like you mentioned.  However, they are obviosuly easier to replace.

Simply because the Jubilee is more fluid, flexible and the links are finer and more delicate, but that's just my personal preference. The Oyster is heavier and the links bulkier, maybe making it a better choice for your wife if she's going to be wearing it to work, because it most likely will be a sturdier bracelet, yet still very attractive.
