Any  idea which auto movement is in this?  Tried 3T search found the watch but nothing specific I could see on the engine.  Zodiac site just says automatic.

It sports the Claro-Semag CL888.  The movement is the weak point of the watch, IMHO.  :(

Well I was certain it isn't using an ETA 2824 .  I thought the sellita 200 is a pretty good movement. I thought the Clara Semag was largely asian. Is it Swiss? Swissian?

It's definetly powered by the Claro-Semag 888 which is owned and built by George.J Von Burg in his Swiss factory.....some of the parts are outrsourced from China but it is all done by Von Burg who's reputation among Swiss watchmakers is stellar....I have this movement in a few watches and it has been a good running movement without problems....no eta but a nice alternative and costs lesshand6.gif

Great watches though. I have the black dial. It has been one of my main go to watches the past two Spring and Summers. ;)

I've had a yellow one for a couple of years now without any problems and keeps great time. For the price point I can't complain.

Okay, I have to make a slight retraction.  I used to own the orange dialed version of this watch and the movement in it suffered from a few issues.  The second hand would stutter while running and would jump ahead 5-7 seconds when the crown was pushed in after setting.

WEEELLLL... I just bought another Oceanaire and am happy to report that the movement in this one seems to be working flawlessly.  The sweep of the second hand is smooth and it hacks like it should.  I'm very happy because I think the Oceanaire is a beautiful, unique watch and a relative bargain at the prices you can pick them up for! :)

I remember reading about that and at first it didn't bother me too much... but the second hand jumping so far forward after setting was too much.  I'm happy to say that my new one does not display either of the above issues.  ThumbsUp02.gif

I own a few watches with the Claro888 and find it to be a great alternative in retrospect of what is going on with eta....there are many Swiss and Asian movements that suffer from the stutter or pause in the second hand and this is the most concise pictorial and educational post explaining the phenom I have seen....hand6.gif

Here is a chinese or japanese movement that has the same problem, this one has a 9 o'clock second hand with date, found in many reps watches it does hack.

For educational purpose only, draw your own conclusion:) I'm not saying that the cl 888 is a bad movement, especially if it has been refine in swizerland (who knows)crap.gif

Bollowed pictures from other link above so you can compare:)

That is a Dixmont-Guangzhou (DG) movement.  I'm not sure which variant has the sub-seconds at 9 o'clock, but it does have the DG circle crown logo under the balance wheel.

DG logo

Nanning (NN) makes almost identical movements to DG and their logo is two N's

I have a DG movement in my modern Timex automatic watch.

Technica Swiss Ebauches

From Chinese Watch Industry Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
The US owned Invicta Watch Company have long used mechanical movements from well-known sources such as ETA and Miyota. Recently they have expeanded their range to include watches with mechanical movements described as "Technica Swiss Ebauches". When questioned, Invicta have stated that Technica Swiss Ebauches is not a company, but simply a brand registered to Invicta. There has been speculation that Invicta were running a movement-finishing facility in Switzerland, but they have been found to have no holdings in that country. Later there were claims that the Technica movements were sourced from Japan, although they did not match the appearance of any known Japanese calibres.

When questioned specifically about the Technica 1902, which looks identical to the Sea-Gull ST1902, Eyal Lalo owner of Invicta admitted that it was in fact assembled from Sea-Gull parts, with Sea-Gull technical assistance, at an Invicta-owned facility in Korea.

The name Technica Swiss Ebauches has caused confusion with some consumers who assume that it implies a certain amount of Swiss content in the movement, however it is important to note that Invicta watches marked as having Technica Swiss Ebauches movements are never labelled either "Swiss Made" or "Swiss Movement". Conversly, Invicta watches labelled "Swiss Made" never have TSA movements.

The term Swiss Ebauches Microtechnique has also been used apparently interchangeably with Technica Swiss Ebauches to describe Invicta's Chinese sourced movements.

Some known Chinese calibres rebadged as Technica Swiss Ebauches

it's too bad most all the good info on Invicta and the French/Swiss ebauches were lost in the 2005 WUS crash which lost all these posts from the old Invicta Watch forum there :D

...I 'm sure most of us here all remember the heated discussions on this subject from back then as senior members of WUS and ex-mods of that Invicta forum which at one time was the single largest watch forum on the web and know more on the subject of Invicta than most anyone hand6.gif
