I'll just mention one that jumped off the page for me when i saw the pic of it this year. The "Franc Vila Concept Tourbillon Planétaire Skeleton SuperLigero" Not sure how many times WOW came out of my mouth along with the drool. LOL :D http://www.professionalwatches.com/2008/04/n_6_tourbillon_planetaire_skel.html http://www.swisstime.ch/pgs/rwi-pgs-prod-lgs-en-idp-1684.html http://watches.infoniac.com/tourbillon-planetaire-skeleton-superligero-concept-franc-vila.html watch2.gif |

Hey Skip. Yep - that's a beauty. But whenever they mention "one of a kind ... movement" ... my wallet cringes  Back here on earth ;), the standout watch for me this year was the Ocean7 LM-7 I received a coupla weeks ago. I didn't expect much - but I really did get a whole lot more than I expected. The black dial rocks - glad I chose to go away from the blue dial (which turned out to be a metallic sunburst blue - not my taste but others sure love it). F&F is excellent. +4 seconds a week. Gnarly looking little number that never ceases to make me smile when I wear it - cos I remember my old Omega 600m Ploprof fondly. And it makes me feel like a million dolars when it is on Omega mesh or on a Hadley Roma Heavy Metal bracelet. IMHO - that is why we love these things we call timepieces - cos of how we feel when we either wear or own them. It doesn't matter what the engine is sometimes, as long as the darn things create some emotion, good or bad, in you and the people you care about - I reckon those things make them a stand-out. Another standout was rediscovering the joys of hand crankers with an Aristo Apucto bought right here on our happy little forum. Great little piece that is a stand-out because it made me take another look at teh world of watches - and taught me not to be closed-minded about what I THINK I want. There have been some terrific new releases this year - not many of which have made it onto my wrist. So now I am going "retro" - and a NIB Omega X-33 Gen 2 is next. Wonder how that one will fare as next years stand-out? On a similar note - the stand-out failure of the year was buying a sterile dial Panerai homage PVD from JOA on another forum. The end result was a great watch. But it pi**ed me off big time to have to send it back at my expense to get the hands replaced, cos the paint and lume was falling off, and the lume on the sandwich dial had discolored, and the crown was misaligned and scraped every time the watch was wound. D'oh!! Next year, as we always say, will be better - at least I hope that kinda stuff never happens to my WIS mates here on 3T. It has been fun reading, posting and learning with and from you guys and gals this year - I genuinely look forward to another year of fun in 2009. Cheers all and have a safe and enjoyable New Year!!
