Went to put on my FT yesterday and when I went to wind it it appeared it was not winding  crap.gif but it was running because of the movement...I let it sit overnight and tried to wind it this morning and nothing....looks like it is off to my friendly watch guy....has anyone else had this problem?

Nick............slow down, you "can't" handwind a Seiko movement. Is that what you are trying to do? You have to kick start them by shaking.

OK then crap.gif I did not know that!!!

So I guess I officially retract my original post.....the FT is running great!!

Question though, how much do you need to shake it before wearing.

BTW...Thanks Tony...u da man Thumbsup3.gif

Nick,

For some reason..and I have one, that one needs a few minutes of shaking to get it going right, unless you plan on being active with it right away.

Most of the Seiko watches have the 7S26 and 7S36 auto movements in them.  They do not hand-wind (or hack) but their pendulum is bi-directional allowing them to wind more quickly and easily vis movement than most automatic movements.  It is my understand that a few models (like the monster) that have smaller interiors in their cases, and thus a smaller pendulum, take a little more "shaking" than most...but it should only take about 10 seconds or less to get them going before putting them on your wrist.

Other Seiko movements, such as the 6R15, are hand windable and hacking.

BTW...good catch, Tony!!!!!hand6.gif

And just to add to the confusion you will find the women's Seikos can be hand wound (at least some of them) and Orients are like Seikos too in that they can't be hand wound.

Having said that Orient has just come out with a  hand wound pocket watch so now they do have a mov't that you can wind.

This is the exact reason why I enjoy this forum so much; everyone is willing to help with a problem and nobody makes you feel ignorant for asking the question.  Although, you may take a little friendly teasing which seems to always be conveyed in a nice way.  Thanks again for a great watch forum.

3T you rock!!!   ThumbsUp02.gif

P.S.  Awhile back, I too attempted to hack one of my Seiko's.
