Being a WIS can be something else. Those who have known me for while know for the longest I was hoarding allot of my watches. Till my sell off the past 2 months I had North of 100 watches. :D I also gifted a few out to family and friends for Grad gifts. :) I decided to count what I had left today. I'm down to a lowly 88 watches in the collection now. :P Believe me folks that is nothing I know a few members who are well into the 3 digit numbers with their collection here at 3T and know a fella on another forum who is North of 1000 watches in his collection. So I'm still small potatoes. LOL  So how many of you feel your hobby is like a addiction. You must buy a new watch every now and then or you go nuts? I kind of fit in that. My kid brother is good for 1 or 2 new watches a year. But then he spends all his time working, caring for his dad and the rest with girlfriend and sleeping. He is a half brother and best friend. I've given him at least a half dozen watches over the past 5 years now. :) I so love this hobby though. Keeps me busy and there is always something new and different to learn or see. I am proud to be a WIS. ;)

I would have to agree with you skip, sometimes i do feel that it is more of an addiction. I also feel that I have to get a new one every so often. Now as in number in collection you have me way beat with 88 i only have 42 but it is growing.

Guys, it is an addiction, and this forum (like others) is our therapy group, where we can all come together and share our passion...watches. Remember...men's goods are always more expensive than womens'. Women can buy clothes, shoes, fashion jewelry, bags in the bundles for less than we can....so saving up for a nice pair of shoes or a watch every so often is not hurting anybody. I'm not even close to 50, but my wife has 50+ pairs of shoes....what makes more sense?

At this stage it is less an addiction for me and more truly a hobby. I like to grab things as they come to me but every now and then I get obsessed with something and can't rest until I have it.![]()

It sure is an addiction of sorts......i'm around the 40 mark at the moment but i may flip a few in the coming months. I find i have 'specific' addictions within the whole ie i am right into tuning fork watches at the moment. Ah well.....least you don't wake up with a hangover!

That is a really interesting topic, Skip. I go north and south of about 40 at the moment, but I am noticing a distinct change in direction to fewer, bigger (than the old 35mms to 40mms), and better watches. It is not exactly an addiction for me. It is like a warm comfortable habit. I like to read, buy, sell, horde, monitor pricing, get a deal now and then, work hard to be able to afford the next big thing, and still have a smile on my face when it is all done. Sometimes I look at the safe contents or thw watch boxes and say to myself "what a dork you are", and at others I proudly go to a fave watch and glam up for a big night out, impress a client, or just tofeel good. This hobby (and in particular this site) has introduced me to some absolute gentlemen (and women!). I try to be the same. I acknowledge the big collectors, drool over some of the bigguns, but I see no need to go to 1000 :?. To me - "having" it is not as much fun as "wearing" it, and that is why I occasionally sell one here and there - I just get a bit tired of it, or I discover that the reality of wearing it is not as much fun as I thought. Apart from having no kids to leave them all to (but I have other family members who will one day get a laugh out of them), it is probably the only "selfish" thing I do which is just for myself. It is all pretty innocent fun. And how good is it when you can speak with a watch manufacturer and actually have a say in the design of the thing, and the manufacturer acknowledges the inputs from experienced people, or people experienced in what they want to see? Not many hobbies offer that! This is sure a peaceful and inoffensive passtime, though. If I did not enjoy watches so much, I am sure that the little "gotta have" part of everyones personality would kick in and I would probably date more evil women than I currently do ![]() One of my old law lecturers once said that the ideal lawyer is a person with a social, moral and religious foundation. I don't know many other lawyers who even try to meet the criteria, but I do. I guess the corollary in WIS-dom is a person who can afford what they buy, enjoys learning about the present and historical nature of watches of all types, and who has enough knowledge and understanding of the topic to appreciate the differences between theirs and other peoples' tastes. Off soapbox! Have a good day 3Ters. IanM ![]()

I am not buying as many watches as I used to, mostly because I bought most of what I wanted, today it needs to be something different than what I already have before I buy it.....that said I do have two moray's coming in and I did buy two Sea Devils....so I guess something different does not really holdup ![]() I am at about 130 right now, and I have been selling off everything under 42mm.

I stopped counting awhile back, just so I can honestly tell my wife "I don't know how many watches I have", though I am pretty sure I don't have 100 (yet) :D I just sold off a bunch too, and will probably sell of a few more hangar queens that aren't "collectable". This is my 3rd expensive hobby. First was hi-fi equipment, but I pretty much have my systems (3) where I want them without completely scrapping everything though I have thought about going all tube. Then Zippos (500 or so), but with the exception of a handful I would like to snag - Zildjian Cymbals, some other musical instrument brands, I am also satisfied with the state of that collection. Now watches, yep, it's an addiction/obsession! Just got a few, looking at some more... Cheers, Griff

I just blame 3T for being enablers, because since I joined here I've become more educated about my purchases and tripled my collection. I have 22 now and growing. Shame on all of you...;)
