Some of you know that I have been very interested in the hybrid watches that case up a pocket watch movement into a wrist watch. Chris initially got me interested in this concept when he scored a Hamilton 917 on the bay. I liked the concept of casing up a movement that is about the same age as me in a modern size case. After obtaining my own 917, which is a 1946 model, I had to find someone to do the work. I finally stumbled onto Sebastion Salvado. He is a Spaniard who is doing graduate school work at Stanford in the Bay area. He loves the old Hamilton movements, especially the 917,921,923 series. He used the original dial, sanded it and removed the numerals, blued the numerals and made his own indices,  and found a set of breguet style hands to complete the face. He had to machine a spacer to fit the movement to the case as well as mill a little out of the case back. Sebastion just sent me pictures of the  completed watch. I think I am going to be very pleased with the final result. There is something poetic about the analogy of keeping one of these vintage movements ticking to keeping my own "ticker" going.

First the 917 I started with:

And the wrist watch which is 43mm:

Thanks, Guys. Nick, if you look closely, you can see the tiny holes on the dial where the numerals used to be attached. I think it just adds interest. Sebastion also machined the edge of the dial to give it a chaper ring effect.

Edgel, that is beautiful. perfect.gifI am so jealous. As you may know, i have a couple pw movts. that are waiting to be made into ww's.  Probably a Panny homage and some sort of pilot. Just been busy building a chicken coop and other outside projects. The watches will have to be winter projects I guess.

Wow Edgel that turned out just so beautifully. What an imaginative yet classic look to the watch. The movement is superb and the dial and case work stand alone. What a fantastic watch to put together. Well done!!:D

May the movement in this beautiful timepiece not outlast the owner's own...;)
