OK fellas, I've been looking and looking at GMTs. I have no idea why I'd need one, but feel the compunction to add one to the collection. Let me hear your suggestions. Here are some candidates: 1.) Benarus 2.) Zinex 3.) Defaubre (42MM) 4.) Zeno 5.) MKII Stu

people love the zinex, but its movement is a MODIFIED one that never started its life as a true gmt. the benarus uses the true gmt movement, as does the debaufre. infact, this is what i said to myself the other day. "debaufre needs to make an auto gmt magnum....it would be perfect"

I have to agree about staying away from the Zinex and/or anything that is using the "modified" 2836. There certainly are a large number of choices to be had. O f those you've listed the DeBaufre is solid and I am personally curious about the MKII LDRP.

gotta agree with Mark in avoiding the Zinex with the modded GMT movement which btw is modded in India mainly for use in replica watches...a movement that has just recently hit some main stream forum brands ![]() The DeBaufre is an excellent choice imo as an owner and it is Swiss Made at 42mm.... the Benarus will surely be a hit as well and one I have on order and is 45mm ....both using a true eta 2893 GMT movement and priced right compared to others on the market hand6.gif

Is there any technical reason such as low reliability to avoid the 2836 modified GMT movement? As I understand, a 2836 modified GMT would make the GMT hand function in a "jump hour" manner instead of the continuous movement like the 2893. I actually think the "jump hour" GMT hand might work better functionally since the hand will be pointed right at the number for the hour until the hour changed, as opposed to being in between hours most of the time like the 2893. I'm thinking perhaps the "jump hour" style GMT hand would be quicker to read at a glance? I do love my Hamilton with 2893 so I don't have any problems with that movement. Speaking of which, for the OP, there are many Hamilton GMT's available that might work for you. Mine is the super oddball Khaki Action Sunset. ![]()

The Debaufre and Benarus would get my vote for a GMT choice.:) Good track records.

Thanks for all the input. I've decided to go wit the Benarus, as I like the styling the best. It's gonna have to wait awhile because I just ordered a PVD, 2nd generation Cave Dweller with a grey dial and an ETA movement from Keith. Too many options. Hopefully they're will be a few autos left in a month. Stu Last edited on Tue Oct 27th, 2009 11:00 pm by smith1792 |

O f those you've listed the DeBaufre is solid and I am personally curious about the MKII LDRP. Do you mean LRRP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol)? I love my MKII Stingray but feel the LRRP is way overpriced...I was hoping the Debaufre would be bringing out that new NAV GMT...still waiting! I personally have had good luck with the modified 2836 on the Bernhardt Globemester than I own, but understand that the modification is Asian and not done by ETA...therefore, it is not a true Swiss Movement. The ETA 2836 is their "Day/Date" movement and the "day" wheel is modified to function as a GMT complication.
