I am attending a 3 day school for work. It has to do with Incident Command in a contaminated environment (nuclear, biological, chemical, etc.) The instructors are all retired FBI, military, and SWAT guys from big metro cities. I liked to fall out when I noticed one instructor was wearing a DOXA 5000 Pro, and another a Rolex Sea Dweller. Both are over 50, so you know they are wearing them for the watch, and not to look cool like some wannabe diver. It was neat because Baton Rouge, La isn't exactly the watch mecca of the south. What's the coolest watch you guys have seen, "in the wild"? ~ David |

dont see any here in the sticks. I dont hang around with dr.s or lawyers so, they would pretty much be the only ones around here wearing anything expensive. When I go to Fl or when I was in Vegas saw lots of rolexes. Maybe a tag here and there. |

That's a great question Dave...like most WIS the first thing i look at is the watch a person is wearing and it amazes me the cheap watches some guys wear that can and should be wearing something else. I have been known to shame guys into buying a good watch. A good friend of mine who is worth millions wore the same Tag quartz for years...saw him about 6 months ago and gave him a bunch of grief over it, saw him about a month ago and he was sporting a Corum Admirals Cup and couldn't wait to show it to me...he now has the bug. So in general i have to say i rarely see great watches on people I deal with on a daily basis and in my job I'm dealing with C level executive daily....very weird ![]() |

I caught the guy with the Dweller peeking at my SHarkhunter that I was wearing. Neither one of us said anything, but you can tell when a guy is a WIS. I think I'll wear a different watch for the next 2 days and see how long it takes for him to say something. If he has a different one on tomorrow, then he's a WIS for sure. |

Absolutely, I travel almost every week and I bring as many watches as days I'm gone...like you said the sign of a true WIS watch2.gif |

Given that I love watches I am always surprised by how few nice watches I see out in the wild. I work in suburban Chicago in hospital administration, so I see plenty of folks with disposable cash. With that being said, I've seen a several Rolex Subs (very nice in the wild) and Datejusts, and quite a few Tags. I've also seen a few Omega Speedmasters. I saw one Panerai on a trip to Salt Lake City. I saw a UN Maxi Diver waiting for a plane in the airport (looked sweet). I've actually seen a few nice Oris watches and a very nice Ebel. Here and there a Breitling. Like I said...there is a lot of crap out there. |

I'm in a similar boat working in a hospital with plenty of docs with disposable cash. I'm always amazed to find WIS are still few and far between but there are two guys who really bring it. On the average though I see a number of Rolex offerings. Usually Subs, Yachtmasters and Daytonas. A couple of Tags pop up here there. An occasional Breitiling or Omega. The guys that bring it are scary. My buddy has a killer collection with a Spring Drive, Pam 98, Sub, GO, Ploprof, Ball, JLC Reverso 8 day and others. Its nice to live vicariously though him though I haven't yet had him let me puppy dog any of his collection. By far the hardest charger is a GI doc who handed me his IWC Grande Complication in gold a few years back. all he got back was an Orient Orange Beast!face4.gif I had no idea but the list on the watch was something like 200K. He was most gracious and genuinely interested in the Orient too. Since then he's brought in any number of gold complicated UNs and is currently favoring one of the Romain Jerome Titanic DNA watches. All in all our tastes, and purchasing power, are quite different. He likes big complicated gold watches which cost mucho dinero and I am but a simple working man...;) We also get our fair share of sales reps who favor the Rolex, Omega and Breitling offerings. |

First off, let me give a big ol' WHO DAT? to DMB. Second, being a LEO, only white shirts (captains and above) usually sport the heavy artillery. Us working stiffs usually stick with something more practical: G-shocks, Suuntos, Luminox, etc. I wear my blue Frankenmonster most days, but do enjoy seeing the "Murder Police" (homicide detectives) come out in their suede shoe and Rolexes ![]() Sgt. You know why us detectives where neckties? It keeps the foreskin from sliding up over our heads. ![]() |

In my little town I see some stuff every once in a while. A buddy of mine has a Ball Ionosphere. The other night I saw a Panerai, but I was otherwise occupied to go talk to the guy about his watch. It was my first Panerai sighting in the wild. And there's a few other guys with Breitlings walking around. Oh, and I've seen a U-Boat. HUGE! |

I work in the luxury car business and have the chance to see nice watches almost every day. A few months ago one of my client was wearing a rose gold Hublot Big Bang, then a few clients with IWC big pilot or Portuguese, tones of Rolex's... What I realize though, is that these people, for the majority of them, know nothing about watches. They bought a watch they liked and don't ask them about the movement or the history behind it... Like one of my good customers, he's a Rolex freak, he as a collection of about 15 of them and each time i see him and look at his watches I want to cry. This guy beats the hell out of them and handle them like if they were Timex's![]() ![]() |

I don’t see much out in the wild, which is odd considering I am in a blue shirt and khaki pant central city:) The lady that runs the coffee place I go to every morning is obsessed with my watches and looks forward to seeing what I ware every day. |

Knowing a lot of docs out here I see plenty of Rolex, but the biggest surprise was when a friend who is an orthopd, came tooling up one day in an Orange DOXA sub! I have a friend who's a bulider who has all kinds of googies from Orsa, Gevril, every Rolex, Hublot, Blancpain, etc...shit, he even has an Invicta! |
