I saw a lovely 18 jewel 21600vph Hanowa Military watch in a shop today...open back and priced at £250, it said swiss made but something did not sit right...thought I would ask your opinion first as "we are the watch borg".
I do not know a lot about this make and I wish to draw on your experience if I may.

A few of the guys here have these watches, do a search to find the threads.

These are Swiss Made watches, they have both quartz and automatic versions of the diver and also quartz chronos.  I'm pretty sure the automatics use the Claro 888 movement, if I'm wrong i know someone will correct me.

Personally I really like the look of the divers and will probably have one in my collection in the near future.

enlighten me...carlo 888? Swiss made or Swiss assembled?
I have had a look a previous threads but was looking for newer info if it is out there.
It looked like there were two r's aposing each other as a mark on the inside and CL was marked also inside

"The new calibre CL-888"

Keep in mind this is a Wiki page and may not be 100% accurate, but based on other things i've read in the last couple days it appears to be

The CL888 from what i've read about is a seagull movement blank, or partial, that has been sent to claro semang and finished and brought to "swiss" standards.

There is mixed reviews as to how well it operates.  I have a zodiac that is pretty smooth that uses the cl888 but some people have had stuttering issues with it.

Many thanks for the feedback people...glad I didn't get it really, although I have nothing against Chinese movements it seems a bit unfair to call it Swiss, also the bit about it having more jewels that it has marked on it is odd and misleading.
Although it looks nice and the movement will do the job I will not be getting one. I would think about it if they boasted it was Chinese and made to high standards equalling the Swiss or something along those lines.

This might be helpful.

I got one on the cheap from the Bay and it has been a great watch so far. You'll note in my initial post I mention the CL-888 does indeed seem to be nearly identical to the Seagull ST16. I'm not certain I would pay the asking price you saw, but for the price I made out with it was a great deal.

I have the Hanowa Sealander with seconds sundial and love it. Now mine is quartz. They make it with the auto mvt noted above which is the same as in the popular Zodiac Oceanaire. Some have
complained of the second hand ticking like a quartz and even
stopping then skipping a few seconds. There is a video
of it on Utube. However my Zodiac runs perfect!! And I would return it
for an exchange if it didnot. Mine has been off Only 5 seconds over 5 days. Maybe I'm lucky. That said the Swiss Army
Hanowa is a cool watch which you should consider buying but not at that price. They are available for far less on the web. Look around, check
Jomasdeals. Got my Quartz one for $79 on sale and I believe the Auto
was b/w 150 & 200. Cheers. Brice

Cool thanks for the advice, I have had a look around but hard to find one in the UK for less than 250.
They do look good though but at that price I will maybe look at something else.
