with all the constant dive watch talk going on I thought it was time for a change of pace with this DeBethune MoonPhase.... just absolutely gorgeous imo with a tecnically advanced movement! hand6.gif

De Bethune DB25 Moon Phase

The Swiss watch manufacture De Bethune was established only seven years ago, but has already acquired enough R&D potential to integrate a balance wheel made of silicium into their new De Bethune DB25 Moon Phase, which an actually working watch, not a prototype device.

De Bethune initially introduced its silicium balance wheel with platinum weights and bimetallic compensation for temperature variations almost four years ago at the Basel 2006 trade show.

The Swiss manufacture hopes that some day the new technology will allow for creation of automatic watches as precise as today’s quartz movements.

Back to the DB25 Moon Phase, though.

This classic-looking 44.6 mm watch is powered by the DB2105si hand-wound in-house movement featuring a self-adjusting double spring barrel and a silicon angular balance with flat terminal curve.

Decorated by hand, the movement is good enough to provide the watch with 6 days (144 hours) of power reserve.

The movement is packed into a 44.6 mm drum case, which is available either in rose or gray gold and features a silvered gold dial with hand applied solar guilloche pattern.

The moon phase indicator is displayed at 12 o’clock. It features De Bethune’s signature spherical moon and a heat-blued “sky” with nine applied gold stars. The moon, which consists of two hemi-spheres –one in blued steel and one in platinum– is rotating on its own axis, always showing you the actual phase of the moon.

The moon phase indication mechanism is so accurate that you won’t have to correct it in your lifetime, unless you plan to live another 122 years.

Beautiful watch, Oscarhand6.gif. I respect this brand a lot and have read quite a bit about it. DeBethune produces in very small numbers and each creation is a marvel in itself. I've also seen and held in my hands some of its models and each one is a heavy one. Maybe its all that gold and platinum.

Thanks for posting. (I think the edges of the hands on this one are beveled, not mentioned by the company, but I think they are. Nice extra touch. IWC has a moonphase watch that doesn't need any correction in 555 years and to ensure the watchsmith by then knows how to adjust the moonphase, a special tool and instruction manual is included in the boxperfect.gif)

I want one!

And I am the kinda guy who will live for the 122 extra years - just to make sure the claim isn't bogus...  :)

Nice spot, O.

Thanks for posting, O!
Now that is a stunning watch.  I just love the sunburst dial, new take on a moonphase complication, blued hands and markers, innovative crown design and skeletonized lugs.  It oozes class!

Having not seen any actual watches from De Bethune before the beautiful moonie above, I just found this interesting 48mm Ti watch from the same people.

Pricey (d'oh!), but every inch the LE with some more interesting features. This link is to an LE of 50, apparently:

http://cgi.ebay.com/DE-BETHUNE-DB24-POWER-SPORT-TITANIUM-NEW_W0QQitemZ150409004587QQcmdZViewItemQQptZWristwatches?hash=item230513462b

(I have no asociation with seller or selling site - just an avid researcher!!!)

Now I have to rob TWO banks..

Cheers and enjoy!
