trying to survive latest snowstorm 8 inches on the ground and its supposed to last another 18 hours. Anway Anybody seen this? Uses a movement I've never heard of RW 2427? $1225 seems like an awful lot. I think the watches look great. R.E. Smith (Resco) posted at another site that Mike Kobald is completely on board with him, and helped him with advice in getting his watch off the ground. There is a nice pic of Kobald wearing the Resco looking pretty happy. It may or may not be your cup of tea, but it is another interesting choice for watch enthusists. Ther has been a lot of postings about whether the watch is worth the money or not, ie Russian movement, 200 m depth rating... Mr Smith says the movement was chosen because it is a workhorse, and can stand up to lots of abuse. 200 meter depth rating should be enough for our functional uses, imho. If you are more than a desk diver, a dive computer with backup is in order. The tough nut for Resco is it goes up against watches with Japanese movements for about half it's price. But i think the watch looks great. Mike |

What is interesting about this watch is that the original pre-order price was about $700 on a much simpler website they originally had. I very much considered purchasing this watch but never pulled the trigger. At its original price it seemed like a good buy, but it becomes much harder to justify at its current price. In a lot of situations start-up watch companies need to offer their first run of watches a bit cheaper than they normally would so that they can get enough customers. Once they have proven themselves as a reliable company it is a different scenario. |

Just an FYI about Mr. Smith. He is, to the best of my knowledge, still an Active Duty SEAL. He's also a member of this forum and has been a fairly active member at MWR. At one time he had a diver collection to be envious of. I believe he sold off quite a bit of his overall collection to help fund his watch company. If I had the funds availible I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one of his timepieces as I believe the quality will be impeccable. JM2CW. |

I like the watch and had they used a eta 2892 there would be no question about price imho($1265.-$1450.????)....the Russian Slava S-2427 although a discontinued movement is a proven workhorse that can stand up to abuse and the Patriot would be a nice addition to any dive watch collection imho...only drawback would be parts,(or if the movements were not serviced prior to sale) if any warranty or after sale repairs would be needed,and the main reason I would not use this movement...I look forward to checking one out if there is a lower pre-order/introductory price or 1 being unloaded on the forums...... http://www.christophlorenz.de/watch/movements/s/slava/slava_2427.php?l=en |

If mike122 is correct, (and I do not doubt that he is) then I stand corrected! Clear similarities in design, but if done with Kobold's input, then no foul. The workhorse movement is a good idea in a watch that may be subjected to abuse. But the price - hmmm. It is either a cut price Kobold or an expensive alternative to other and better proven (or maybe even just better known) timepieces from other manufacturers. Murph - I have no doubt that the watch is gonna be well built - it is a "reputation builder" from a guy who puts his money where his mouth is. Gotta respect that. But for a first effort at this price, it tells me that prices for his future efforts will probably be pretty "up there". Might not be a bad thing, the world could always use another mid-high end manufacturer who does good work. Reputatuions are hard to earn and dead easy to lose. I wish RESCO well.
