Yes this has worked, posts are removed if you breach certain rules, just check the rules of the site, it just might be because of that.

Yesterday I asked if you could stop a Seiko with a magnet ( its winder is busted ) and it being 20 minutes fast. GONE.

What's wrong with that ?

I would take it to awatch maker and get the stem replaced and the timing adjusted, personally I would not try and stop a watch with a magnet as you may magnetize other parts of your watch and cause resistance etc, then you will need to get it de-magnatized and have it adjusted anyway.

As for your posts being deleted maybe ask Paxman.

Hope this helps.

no one would have removed that post?....are you sure you sent "post a new topic" as we are using new software and it may not have posted?....if this post berating what would seem like moderation isn't deleted why would you think this post of yours about a winder busting would be?...especially when it sounds like a joke..."it's winder is busted"...c'mon get real will you!....

what is the winder 1st of all....the crown?....the rotor?...the mainspring?......what model Seiko is it ?....and were you near any heavy magnetized fileds for it to have it's "winder busted"? did you feel something unwinding quickly or hear it....could you be more specific?....could it possibly be that the mainspring just decided to give out as many Seikos do..especially the lower end models/inexpensive ones?....

I saw the thread yesterday but yes it was gone today. I'm not sure if it was deleted or what.

by any means, I don't think using a magnet will work to try to set your watch lol.

by the language you used yesterday was vague. Is the crown/stem broken or is it the rotor?

I'm not an expert but I think the problem is the hairspring may have become disengaged and simply needs to be returned to its original place. This might be the case if the watch goes more than an hour fast a day.....or more than an hour slower.

Hope this helps.

Oagaspar - the post went up as was witnessed by others and I definately saw it had been read by 20 or so members. It's not a big deal I just thought it was strange that it  dissappeared when it was not inflammatory or what have you in  anyway ! I find this board very useful and interesting and just hoped I did not break any rules. I did not get any PMs from mods so I was just asking the ??

It was not a joke post.

I have bought all three of my seikos ( see previous posts ) of eBay. The last two came out of Hong Kong and within 4 months both their WINDERS ( ok CROWNS....sorry I dont know all the lingo ) have given up. First they get all wobbly and in one case it just clean broke off. I rearely if ever even used them other than to intially set the time and date. Very odd.

I cannot go to a service center as I started before I live in Cambodia and there is no such thing. I went to the only known "seiko dealer" ( probably fake ) and was told "6 months" !!

My latest seiko is the one in my avatar. A frankenmoster. It's winder...sorry....crown.....is still in the watch but simply does not work. I can adjust date but not time. It got to the stage where it was 20 minutes fast so hence I asked the simple ?? about the magnet.

I used a magnet and it worked perfectly ! Time stood still for 20 mins and now all is well woohoo.gif.

Trust that clears it all up !

Thanks to all for your help.

KK

1. A magnet should not be used anywhere near a watch. It can ruin it. If you used a magnet on your watch or watches, that will certainly cause a malfunction.

2. Just in case you don't know, you can not manually wind most Seiko watches. The crown is only for setting the date and time. It is not a winder in this case.

3. If there is a language issue or lack of understanding the terms, you did the right thing by stating so above. It helps.

4. Sorry for your problems.

Yes .....I know the CROWN is not a WINDER. I only ever use it/them to change the date or time. I am now wearing my orignal Seiko Automatic dive watch which although it stops overnight if don't wear it, has never let me down in 8 years. I am very disappointed with this latest Seiko acquisition and now that it has seemingly died..I WILL HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER WATCH !snoopy1.gif

You might want to try a Citizen Watch. Their Automatic watches are good and you can hand wind them also. Or, try a Seiko Kinetic model that has up to a six month run time.

Or Orient and Vostoks, the vostok New Amphibia range are automatics and can be hand wound. Great for the price.

Kidkhmer, for the life of me I don't what's happening to your watches. This is the very first time I have ever heard of such problems on the 7S26 or 7S36. I have tons of those and not a single problem at all in all these 30 years or so. I even have a Bellmatic that's vinatage 1975 and still keeps darned good time and works with a buzz and a small irng. I even have a few brand new Seikos I bought for less than US$80 at ADs and none of them have malfunctioned in any way.

Just curious........where did you buy your Seikos in HK? Are you sure they're all original? Was your source a trustworthy one? Did you pay good and fair market prices for each or were the prices too good to be true?

I agree with Jeff, I've owned several Seikos and have never had any of these issues, actually I never had these kind of problems even on Chinese watches (not that there is anything wrong with those).

If the watches are authentic then maybe it is something environmental that is causing your problems.

I have bought all of my Seikos off eBay and I only ever buy from sellers that have near perfect ratings on thousands of transactions. From memory, all three have come out of HK and all three were bang on price wise . Not super cheap but just a fair price. From memory, only the Frankenmonster did not come with a box / warranty card etc BUT they said that in the listing. I tell you if it is a fake then it is a bloody good one ! I can't reiterate enough - I have NOT used the crowns other than to adjust the time and date originally and then maybe once or twice after that for daylight savings etc. I have never actually "wound" the watch. My last two purchases the crown got "wobbly" after just several useages. The frustrating thing is...I have spent over $600 ++ on seikos which gets me towards a BENARUS Megalodon.....which I am now just about to buy cos I DESERVE A GOOD WATCH !
