I was looking at the ALPHA watch web site for a beater watch. Anyone have any experience with the Seagull movements? They are so inexpensive it worries me. Thoughts?

Bought an Alpha GMT in 2002 and it ran flawlessly until about 3 months ago and then stopped. I only paid $37 for it so not worth servicing.  I'm sure all it would have needed was a good COA.

You are going to hear the same ol' you get what you blah blah and not all seagulls  are blah blah....

If you just want to get a cheap mechanical watch to scratch that weekly/ monthly/ daily itch go for it. If you are buying a graduation present for your son.... well... not exactly the long time reward you are looking for, unless he failed a couple of years of college and you are trying to impose life lessons.

BTW, not all Alpha watches have Seagull movements inside.

Well here's the blah blah blah. When you buy an Alpha it is akin to supporting counterfeiters as Alpha clearly sources their watches from the same place as those who sell out right replicas. You want a dependable beater? Get a Seiko. JMHO.

Nothing can come close to a Seiko as a beater. The Frankenmonsters, 009s and even the Pepsis are so hard to beat. Seiko? easy 20 years of reliable use.Thumbsup3.gif

I must agree with my fellow WISers.. there's no better beater/weekend watch than Seikos... you MUST try any of the monsters to start.....Thumbsup3.gif

Yes you cannot go wrong with a good old Seiko 5 or Orient.
