The design looks great with the CuSn8 Bronze case and that Chocolate Brown dial!  Love the look.

...the only obvious negatives for me are the wimpy looking crown and 5Atm (really?) water resistance.

With a piece such as this, you would hope they would spend a bit extra on getting the crown and water resistance to a palatable level. ...I guess with the 'REGATTARE' reference, Magrette IS emphasizing the Yachting/Sailing aspect of the piece and you aren't really supposed to go to deep depths with this one.

Great look though, and the cheapest Bronze cased watch I have seen so far by a large margin.

I ordered one just for the bronze case...it happens to be the same case as my 7 yr old Swiss Stovard Jurgenson. I plan on swapping the eta/dial and hands from the SJ into the bronze case, which I think will look awesome.ThumbsUp02.gif

That Magrette looks good but sahre Chris' comments on the WR. Atleast a 100m rating would have been more assuring.

Good plan, Oscar! That would a good project.

Mod: what I was thinking. The dial doesn't do it for me at all, too much giant text, and do I need to be reminded everytime I look at it to know it's bronze?
Looks like a good platform to make an interesting watch from.

Its a sub 400.00 watch it will not be perfect but will open up the bronze cases to the masses.......and they wont have to take second mortgage out to fund it.  Heck I ordered it based upon being bronze and the price period....

Very good points, Rich, but still only 5 ATM on a bronze watch..they could have easily made it 100m WR.

So how many people with this leather strapped watch are gonna swim with it? let alone take it to 50 or 100 m?

Come on guys, For $280 plus p&p this watch is for nothing.......

Water-resistance is not what it seems in the watch-making statements...
A 30m WR would hold humidity away and may take water just with a swim...
I would say that it's only from 100m and up that the WR is starting to be good enough to use with light water-sports and take small dives in the pool without fear of getting it soaked: IF the 10 bars test is performed properly by the maker....
Keep in mind that you may reach this pressure just by falling in the water while jet-skiing...
This understood, the Regattare Bronze is just good for a shower.
Read there and you will get it:

I think some WIS put way too much emphasis on WR...not all watches are made to dive with, and honestly, how many of us really dive,or only own 1 watch?dog smile.gif

It says it all Oscar:
"50 Meters
165 Feet
5 ATM
A watch with this level of resistance is wearable around household sinks, while playing sports and while swimming in shallow water. Do not wear it while bathing, snorkeling or scuba diving."

here we go beating the dead horse again over WR...if your afraid to go in the water with a watch that is only 50m WR,don't wear it in the water,as far as getting it accidentally wet,no problems.
....I'm with Rich on this one....at this price point,Magrette has brought a bronze watch to those who may not have spent the bucks for the other offerings out there.

does anyone know exactly what bronze alloy this watch will be using...I'm seeing some forums reporting the same bronze used by Panerai and in the new Moray CuSn8,but find it hard to believe it can be offered at this low price point?...it is a no frills, bare bones watch imo with only the hands being lumed on the dial, and low WR,but my understanding is that bronze cases take more time to produce, which adds to the cost...it's been rumored Magrette seems to be rebranding Alphas as of late?,which could also be the reason they can be offered at a much lower cost....but I have reason to suspect it is brass and not bronze, only time will tell...especially since the Chinese think brass and bronze are the same...dog smile.gif

while I'm no expert in the history of Magrette, I do recall several years ago that the cases used were shared with the Alpha's. Don't know if there was any truth to it but something about having alpha make cases but never paid up for exclusivity. At the time (back in 2008 or so), it was enough to keep me from purchasing. I've also seen some early Magrette's that were straight up PAM homages with Magrette on the dial (much more than the current ananimo/panerai style). However, I don't see Alpha's with a bronze case so I'm hoping that these might have been produced somewhere else. Also, at least I don't feel so bad with a watch that might end up being a novelty if it was $400 vs 1k+! Have my fingers crossed and I ordred as well (first watch is several years).

I think the watch yields very good value at the price point. WR is secondary because common sense dictates you don't buy this watch for the purpose of diving or water sports.
I think this is a statement watch....the looks of an Italian pedigree, a novel case material from our table of elements and a piece/look to suit your mood for the day or week.
Sometime back, I bought a Crux because it was the first watch from Australia ---- and I found that unique---and now the Magrette from New Zealand presents itself. Nice to have in the collection for sure.

Oh by the way, I think I shared this before....a sister-in-law of mine in Texas (5 kids of which 4 are boys) has used for the past 10 years a simple ladies' Seiko 5. She's taken it to the pool dozens of times, snorkeling several times, jet skiing, fishing at Cabo and all sorts of activities with her sons in the water. It's ridiculously low WR hasn't been an issue at all in all this time. She's a non WIS and she thought I was smoking dope when I warned her not to use it in the pool ever again again. I can still remember her laughter.

Reputable watch companies generally under promise and over deliver on WR.if I owned a watch company of my own, I'd do the same.

50M WR is pretty deep for non-Scuba Divers. I would have no issues in using it in a pool, swimming etc.

Fact is, I wouldn't take a watch with a WR rsting of less than 100m anywhere near water.....

NICE! ferro01 - this will absolutely look the biz when the case ages a little so that the patina matches the torched buckle.

I agree with O - at this price point, this Magrette brings bronze to the masses, and it does not claim to be anything other than what it is. I am not a fan of their over-bold dial font, but that is why God created other dials! I reckon O's black dial from his SJ will create a unique piece (like many of his other pieces, it must be said!!), and my personal preference is for black dials in bronze cases - take a look at the latest Kazis for the proper way (IMHO) to do it - at a price, of course.

Rock on, O - you have a good plan there! Share when done! This is only a two-hander, so I might just get one to play with a spare (replica) Radiomir Panerai dial I have... that should get the purists mad! And no - I won't be diivng with it... ;)

Cheers - IanM  ThumbsUp02.gif
