I haven't been skimming the sales forum too much but was earlier today and came across this post offering a Lum Tec C-1 for sale. Imagine my surprise to see pictures I had taken of my watch being displayed. If you've ever wondered why some member's photos have borders or are watermarked you now know why. Here's the post:

I sent this guy a PM so I expect the photos to be gone soon enough. I wonder if 3T members think this is just laziness or if the guy is a scammer? He did include his own photo (may be ) and does have 70 posts at WUS so he must be golden.subtlelaugh.gif Feel free to drop him a PM.no.gif

Well, he's effectively a copyright thief and the watch he is showing is not the one he has for sale, so "scam" seems not totally inappropriate.

He replied to my PM promptly and apologized and said he'd remove them. Stated he has issues uploading his own pics.

This is just INEXCUSABLE!!...on all levels. I have a photography business and the "copyright" infringement on any of my photographs would send me right to my lawyer.....oooh this guy would hate to meet me!!

I received a message yesterday afternoon from the OP. Apologies and excuses as expected. Like many of you I feel this maneuver is a good indication of the character of the seller and would keep me far away.

Thanks for your input!

Pax! Make no mistake about it you should be Mad :@ considering this guy is using your pics to represent his watch (that is if he even HAS that watch) that's just wrong! I've seen several fellow wis use a stock pic of the watch they are selling but they disclose it in their post.. This is just plain wrong!!!

Not long ago I sold a watch at a more than fair price, the day after the buyer rec'd it was listed for sale for a couple hundred more...with my pics. I honestly didn't care about the price: I got what I asked for it, so what the next owner does is not up to me. If he makes a profit then good for him, no hard feelings. What bugged me was the use of my pictures without asking. He did state: "pictures from previous owner", but come on!
I used to frequently see my pictures used in eBay listings until I started watermarking them. That helped a bunch, but folks still copy my text, and mimic my pictures and listing template...nothing to do about that! :(
