I know that some of you do not hold him in highest esteem.  He is a salesman and is judged by his employers by revenues. But I have enjoyed watching him and have bought a half dozen of his Invicta’s.

Some watches he has no control over, but I just got a view of his host choice. Now I like divers watches, I like skeleton watches and I like open heart watches.  But this thing???

I might be a newbie and I am slowing down my Invicta purchases in favor of more unique brands, but I do not get this watch.  Is it me or am I out growing my TV buddy?

How do you spell WSS?

He never saw a watch he didn't find "unbelievable".

Which is exactly why so many have discovered his true worth in helping a potential WIS purchase a new watch.

Just an occasional bit of realistic truth thrown in with all the hyperbole would go a long way in quieting his detractors.

But that is NOT what he gets paid for.................is it?:?

A great majority of us "old timers" started with Invicta as a great watch when we discovered the venerable 8926. It is/was simply a great value and a staple in a large majority of WIS's collections. You can't find a better "beater". Unfortunately as we moved up the food chain, and acquired more insight and knowledge, we all realized what a sham this outfit really is. Just a re-brander pushing the majority of their wares via late night home shopping along with bulk knife purchases and linens.

As long as they have an audience of new watch enthusiasts, they will continue to mass merchandise to the lowest common denominator with the lowest common watch they can bulk purchase for resale.

THIS latest incarnation is just abysmal!

Now why wouldn't anyone who's looking for something like that just buy a Sandoz and be done with it?

The one from Singapore, of course.

I agree with the original post: I have many open heart watches, a number of divers and a couple skeletons. This one, however, is also lost on me. A clash of styles or cross-purposes or something, but the open heart on a diver is just too busy and kind of defeats the purpose of the watch...difficult to get a quick read without the cut- away getting in the way. An abomination.

Ken...where are you?

Must be out on the golf course or somewhere.  He's certainly not online or he would've weighed in on this topic long before this.

My opinion?  The watch is an abomination and an ill-conceived mess!

As for Jim Skelton, I happen think he is a genuine WIS and has taught himself a lot about watches (like most of us).  He’s a sales guy on TV and is given a script to use as a guide for his comments.  It’s his job to make every watch look good.  Tell you what, if I had to comment about a huge range of watches for hours on end, week after week, I’d make ten times the numbers of goofs that he makes.  I think the guy needs to be cut some slack.  I know I’m in the minority on this issue, but that’s my opinion nonetheless.

The open heart complication is simply an eyesore, ruining the balance and aesthetics of ALL dials when it is used.

JMHO.

I tried to remember if I would have had this same opinion years ago when first becoming a watch addict. I did purchase ONE skeleton watch years ago, long before these forums and my complete loss of common sense, so I guess anything is possible, but a large percenatge of these gimmicks used on these low end watches are just really distracting.

The pricing increases seen in the last year and a half have made it MUCH easier to completely ignore a large number of brands, knowing that real Swiss watches can be obtained for roughly the same dollars.

If it goes with the pattern, the price will eventually hit $199.99 or so. Drop a coupon and it'll be $179.99. End-of-the-year blow out price $129.99!:dude:

Hay every body slow down a minute, I have found a new calling explaining how to fix the Invictim POSs.  You all are going to take my hobby away.  Realy folks with all of the cool watches leave Inv. alone step back from the table and let it go.  The design team that designed the watches that you all use to talk about on the old forum left about two + years ago you can only get skrewed so many times.  They keep trying to redo old ideas they picked up off the cutting room floor.

I totally agree!  An "open heart" has no more business being part of a diver watch than a padded leather landau roof does on a NASCAR stock car!

Okay, I have stopped lurking and will now.........comment.  As you all know, I have several Invicta's which I love (2014/2015, 8926ob, S1 prodiver, 2274/2275, etc), but, I have absolutley no respect for the company because they have instilled true fear into the saying ,"caveat emptor".  They have no intellectual (or actual) honesty.

As to JS, I truly do not know the extent of his watch knowledge, nor do I really care.  To me, Jim Skelton "lost it" when I discovered the depth of his dishonesty, depravity and lack of character and personal ethics.

and now...............back to lurking!

No comment on if Jim has lost it, but I need to ask.......if he's the watch "Guru" why does he do so few shows???? He doesn't work 4 hours a week.

2hours of watches yesterday handled by Daniel Clark? 2 early shows today someone else and Shawn tonight/tomorrow?????????

Granted he does do primetime Sunday and Wednesday, but thats it....and rightly so Slop does not have him sell anything else.:(

Sorta odd to me:(

If any one looked the price on the automatic Speedway went up $200 +, from the last time it was on Slop.  Not for sure did not get mine there, but tried to keep track of it.  I thought they only droped the price to the point it took all of the value out of it.  They are saving that for later.

Really begs the question "did he ever have it?"

Only 3 years ago he was selling dark glasses and fossil watches in an eyeglass hut somewhere.. He has come a great distance in terms of his personal fortunes.
It is amusing how we put him on a pedestal for what we think he is, and come to revile him for lacking the traits we, ourselves have mistakenly attributed to him.

JS is a hawker of TV merchandise to late night, sleep deprived people.  He sells by promoting an illusory comparative value to truly great watches, and by creating a false sense of urgency in his following.   As his followers become increasingly knowledgeable, his relevancy is reduced by a similar degree.  As long as we endlessly discuss him, his perceived credibility will remain pretty high.

This is why you are asking the question "Has JS lost it?". ...Nope...Never had it to begin with.

IMHO it is time that JS became a non factor in our watch world.  New Wissers who let him do their thinking do so at their peril.

JS is there to sell thousands and thousands of watches.  His prime directive is to move product.  Whether or not he is a real watch fancier is entirely beside the point (and rather a good smoke screen).  First and forever, he is a peddler whose job it is to sell many thousands of watches a week.  JS hasn't lost a thing.  He is steady as Gibralter, and predictable as George Bush the younger.
