Having thrown away a lot of money collecting watches I would go for an Omega or a Rolex if you are spending that much. I would lean towards an Omega myself. You can find some really great ones in that price range.

Ball Fireman? The Seiko Spirit watches are a bit more on the dressy side of the sport/dress category, but are less than $300 and look the biz, IMO. Check Mike Stuffler's post (IIRC) on WUS for pics.....
